after a week form switching to Codex from Claude, my take:
✅ Codex with 5.5 feels a bit faster than Opus 4.7 (haven't tried 4.8)
✅ Codex feels more intelligent than Opus when building things, but is not as good at understanding
❌ Weekly limits are significantly lower

@xdotdan Claude had tiny limits for a couple of weeks around March, but they fixed it and limits were much better lately.

Maybe you were using Claude when they had those issues with the limits?

At least it's refreshing to have more than 10 people read something I posted and actually interact with them.

Tomorrow I'll post a hot take much more interesting than Codex vs Claude. We'll see how that goes.

@pawelkarniej I wish they were more transparent about the usage limits, because it's wild our experiences are so different. There's definitely something off here.

@PKMerlott yeah I was on the same boat. I cancelled the subscription and asked for a refund during that couple of weeks.

I only made the change to Codex now because they hadn't refund me yet, so I was still using the sub I had paid.

But if that was the only reason, it got much better.

@PKMerlott I remember a couple of months ago Claude limits were BAD. Totally unusable. I could use like 10 Sonnet prompts and the 5h was gone.

But that was a crazy couple of weeks, and things improved significantly. So much that I was driving Opus lately.

Maybe you got hit by those weeks?

The 5h limits feel ok. I'd definitely hit the limit with intense use, but I can work around it

The weekly limits, however... 😵 even light use will reach the limit in 4-5 days

It would be great if both OpenAI and Anthropic were more open about token limits. Kind of nuts they don't tell us AND can change them at will.

Having less context sent to the model would definitely help with token usage, but have you noticed any difference on the quality of the output?

@kyledcollins yes, but honestly it was a bit confusing coming from Claude, where it's just the opposite.

@K7335807334520K I'm using 5.5 with High and NOT fast.

One thing that I'm thinking is that, just maybe, the limits are similar, but because Codex is faster than Claude I burn through the weekly limits faster.

I'm not sure, but the feeling is that Codex is about 25% less weekly usage than Claude

@a_negelya yeah I'm thinking I might get a second driver. Claude makes a lot of sense, but maybe Cursor would be a good bet. I don't know yet
