@Suchmo83 @Mr_AlmondED @Kieran_M_Ed @DohertyShannen I think I read some Australian publications and, in my head, wondered how we can test pupils at the start of Y2, Y3 and Y4 on their speed and recall of the previous year's number fact content. Then, provide tailored intervention and reassess progress during the year.

In the most basic terms, reading lessons involve a mixture of reading text and responding to it (i.e. discussing text or producing written responses).

And I think that in many (if not most) primary schools the balance between these two things is *way* off.
