Thrilled to share my invited review paper on environmental records from coral skeletons: a follow-on from Lough 2010 (talk about giant shoes to fill!). An incredibly daunting & rewarding chance to highlight a decade of advances in our field [Thread๐]

Cheers to Professor Jay Quade! Being elected to the National Academy of Sciences is one of the highest honors that a U.S. scientist can receive https://t.co/mKW1E6CjbB
All-in-all, this work emphasizes the importance of pairwise screening of samples when studying climate variability (e.g., ENSO)--- statistical metrics that are sensitive to small changes in preservation!
Using a refined method that allows screening of the same sample used for geochem, @MudithW shows that even intra-skeletal calcite with small % contribution to a sample can result in significant paleo-temperature offsets
The impact of these seemingly "minor" features (not visible by x-ray) have been largely overlooked by traditional screening methods, which require large sample sizes and/or time-consuming methods
Congrats @MudithW for his new contribution in @AGU_Paleo: a direct look at the impact of fine-scale calcite diagenesis on coral geochemical records

Iโm recruiting PhD students for Fall 2024 at @CUBoulderATOC! ๐โ๏ธโ๏ธ๐๏ธ
Iโm looking for students interested in the interplay between forced and internal variability in the tropics using some diverse data sourcesโ climate models, instrumental observations and paleoclimate proxies.
Our new paper on the #climate and #vegetation of the last 7 interglacials in the Peruvian Andes just came out https://t.co/p4tMTsrxxS. We find that the #Holocene followed a similar trajectory to other interglacials until about 4000 years agoโฆan early start to the #Anthropocene!
@DantheClamMan Haha yeah. It's not the ideal time. Breastfeeding and postpartum body is strangely buoyant & still getting ab strength back from them literally splitting apart in pregnancy. ๐ But where there is a will (READ: STUBBORNNESS) there is a way ๐คช๐คฃ
There's nothing like trying to be cleared for scientific diving after a period of infertility and pregnancy related inactivity to make you want to burn down the f^$@# patriarchy.
@DaviesswPhD @jess_carilli @coralsncaves @IRockClimate & so many other badass women in scientific diving: let's rebuild it in our own image ๐ช๐งโโ๏ธ
All ideas welcome!
