*quality* service industry labor is mis-priced
you hear all the time how "…its so hard to find good people…", they usually don't finish the sentence "…for cheap"
this same phenomenon happened with dental assistants. then a temp platform got to scale and repriced the labor accordingly. the labor was happy, the practice owners were less than thrilled.
we did the same thing at heave with heavy equipment mechanics. the difference there is dealerships take such a massive rake that mechanics make 3x more and customers still save 2-3x
it seems that in supply constrained market it takes a new platform to aggregate the constrained supply and reset pricing based on *actual* demand.
for the temp dental assistant platform they were selling back to the offending party.
for heave it was a 3 party market. we sold to the equipment owners, so the dealerships just lost share while mechanics and customers both came out ahead.
service industry labor looks a lot more like the dental setup. the restaurant or hotel is both the one underpaying and the only buyer, which is probably why nobody has repriced it yet.
the first platform that lets guests pay for great service directly is going to make a lot of owners very uncomfortable.
desktop web ui has been around 30+ yrs, mobile 20+ yrs
the truth is most patterns have been explored and validated through billions of dollars and years of brilliant designers time.
this is why you see things like streaming services, frontier labs, stories, reels etc. all converge on the same patterns.
there is a platonic ideal for most crud apps and much of that ux has been worked out. also consumer pref gets locked in.
aesthetics is a different story and there will always be room for taste and unique expression, but until we have a new hardware form factor - id argue most of the ideal approaches and patterns have been validated.

That's @tobi talking about @dhh's Omarchy.
@DougWahl1 show me another owner in the league that does this…
not even the master of meddling in dallas
that said, if you felt extremely overwhelmed by the role - this is probably necessary
she’s the owner, she can run it how she wants, but no top 10 coach would sign up for this
