New preprint from our group. Q: How accurate is bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing? A: Not as accurate as we expected. In fact, at the single-cell level, PCR bias has a significant effect. We quantify this experimentally. A 🧵 https://t.co/xXAMe1ajGB #SingleCell
A new story, spearheaded by Federica Mangione is out @NatureCellBio!🎉
Federica observed the association of non-neuronal epidermal cells with the developing mechanosensory bristle. (1/2)
Welcome, Thomas Quail!
The new group leader will study the collective behaviours that drive genome self-organisation, using a range of interdisciplinary approaches.

📢Getting ready for two exciting talks on Tuesday 21st of March 12:00 CET! We are hosting Dr. Malte Buchholz, Uni. of Marburg and Dr. Dimitris Papadopoulos, UoC. Looking forward, thanks to @RNAsociety@lexogen https://t.co/kP24QT0u7O
The European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) appointed Nektarios Tavernarakis as Chair of its Governing Board.
A major achievement of Nektarios and an important distinction for the Greek and Cretan scientific landscape! https://t.co/2XsownHIRu
Extremely intriguing idea! For sure, Steve Hawking would agree that Time is the fire in which the whole universe burns. And as such, it surely defines all things living matter, too.
Just a 💭: What if the essence of the information encoded by the genome is time? What if time were the fundamental property of living systems and everything else a derivative? What if genomic information evolved as an adaptive response to the physical reality of time?
@bassemh1 Yes, I think so. With the conservation of information needing to be obeyed, several things will have to be explained (including black hole shrinkage). Plus, if future doesn’t exist, then the most exciting for me is life’s ‘effort’ to hard-wire time and defy thermodynamic death.
Tomorrow (Dec 14, 12:00) CET we will have Miquel Vila Farré @quelandries from @mpi_bpc in our @UGoe_AEB seminar: "Why some animals regenerate while others cannot: evolution of regeneration in planarians (Tricladida)". DM in case you want to join via zoom.
@PavelTomancak This is anything BUT vanity. I so much admire you for your determination with achieving something, be it intellectual (you got this!), or physical (a bit tougher, that’s why your success tastes heavenly). I do appreciate the value of modesty, but... you’re the man!
@aemonten A choice of HDMI adaptors for laptops or plug converters. You can never have enough of them. I always forget to bring one or lose them and run around to borrow one. Decent quality ones aren’t expensive either.
The @NASA PASIPHAE experiment to image stellar history using polarized light is advancing in Crete! Congrats to the whole-program coordinator Prof Kostas Tassis, at the Institute of Astrophysics, @FORTH_ITE and Skinakas Observatory. https://t.co/C5LXsUUZdQ https://t.co/DmeV7LxB7L
