This is an important thread. I’ve been thinking of the sustainability of US-based craftsmanship economics for years; once consumers are conditioned to cheap things it’s very difficult to convince them to pay for real cost. Farmers, craftsmen, etc. all affected.
Kind of a random post, but:
My wedding dress =
Approximately
✅ 72 hours of labor
✅ $615+ in materials
For me it was a labor of love, and it turned out perfectly - the way I'd pictured it for years. 🤩
But even at the (low) rate of $15/hour, that would be $1,695.
In 2011, my papa was laid off from a Whirlpool manufacturing plant, the kind that had for so long made America great. In the wake of the financial crisis, the C-suite had decided to offshore operations to Mexico.
The plant they shuttered was a 1.2 million sq ft manufacturing plant, and overnight, 1,000 people lost their jobs. Many of whom had been working there for decades.
My papa was 57 years old when he got laid off. He had worked at that very same plant for over 30 years, and snap just like that, it was all gone.

The most enjoyable part of the tariff war will be the American public finding out just how many "American businesses" are nothing more than a lavish US-based home office for the marketing and logistics teams with warehouse space to store their Chinese imports.
No equipment, no machines. No factory.
Creating NOTHING.
Inventing NOTHING.
Building NOTHING.
Just a clever logo and a distribution chain.
Watch any episode of Shark Tank and you'll see it for yourself.
"Your margins are ONLY 60%?!? How can I possibly invest in you, there's nothing in it for me! We gotta make that product in China or you'll never attract private equity!"
Lmao. Fuck outta here.
Find me a private equity guy with conservative values who isn't going to ask me for 80% of my company, or, 20% interest on the money, or, isn't expecting a 3X return in the first year.
Seriously, they don't exist.
Conservatives have almost nobody who's willing to put down capital for a long term project, in a cyclical industry, out of a love and passion for what they do rather than just looking at the pure investment return.
I've talked to at least a dozen of these guys - not just for financing on my own business, but on other firearms related business projects.
They have money and supposedly they have values, but they absolutely do not put their money where their mouth is. It's all about that quick return anymore.
Today I introduced HR 2356, the Dual Loyalty Disclosure Act.
If we continue allowing dual citizens to run for federal office, candidates should disclose to voters ALL countries in which they hold citizenship.

Just learned about how Chicago sold the rights to all of its parking meter revenue to the UAE for $1.1B in 2008. The city is currently collecting ~$150M/yr (and growing) in parking meter fees and then sends it straight to Dubai... Until 2083
What the fuck
This happened to my 40lb dog two years ago. Thankfully, she survived. I’ve been around dogs all my life, grew up with 7 in the house at a time. Pits are different.
@elonmusk Filter out spam followers, etc. This screenshot only shows two, but in reality there were about 5 variants of the same fake account. Shouldn't be too difficult to do a similarity check on username, handle, and avatar as a baseline for identifying potential fraud.
