This debate is a bit superfluous for me. I do ice baths for reasons that are not at all ascribed to these aspirational benefits. It's mental for me. I deal with stress better; I am more mentally focused, and I am less disrupted and grumpy about the winter where I live.
I’ve written to Steven several times asking him why if he’s so smart about dopamine that he ignores the data showing peripheral and central dopamine can rise in parallel. We definitely need more data on that.
I’ve also asked him why the lead author on the dopamine paper that he parades around (his last real publication was 2005) contradicts his very conclusions. I’ve invited him on the podcast, but he’d rather throw darts at people like @SahilBloom who’s actually out there doing great things and helping people with his book and inspiring people. I do hope Steven will have a public conversation with me about dopamine at some point because he’s also put similar arguments against my colleague Anna Lembke’s dopamine dynamics statements and ignored the counter evidence. Great to be scholarly and academic, but that means actually having a conversation where counter points to the counterpoints can be raised.
Just a friendly reminder that libraries are free.
Not “free trial” free.
Not “free with ads” free.
Not “free if you give us all of your data” free.
But free free.
Keep posting this so people don’t forget how truly bad this event was.
Don’t let people gaslight you into thinking it was peaceful and worthy of 1500+ pardons and slush fund payoffs.
It's time to remind ourselves the difference between 1 million and 1 billion: One million seconds is roughly 11.5 days, while one billion seconds equals nearly 31.7 years.
Hi friend! A little fun fact for you, I helped start the American Basketball Association, and that's where the three-point shot was born. So every time you see one of those long shots go in, you can thank the ABA.
I may have to tell Steph Curry one of these days... "You owe me, buddy!"
