Talking to independent physicians, it's obvious that the big insurance carriers are doing to them, what their PBMs are doing to independent pharmacies.
They deny, underpay, slow pay, clawback, and create administrative mazes, knowing their victims don't have the time or resources to fight.
Why ? By putting financial pressures on physicians and pharmacies, it makes them more likely to sell their businesses to them , close their doors, or refer the business to their captive pharmacy or provider. All benefitting the biggest insurance companies
We need to ditch the concept of "claims" and make every delivery of medications or care as a billable event that must, by law, be paid on a timely basis , with interest charges for any delays. If the physician or pharmacy doesn't deliver , the carrier has plenty of legal options already. As does the patient.
This is not an efficient market. This is the big guy abusing the little guy. It needs to change to better the care we get in this country

bioluminescent plants and environmental cleanup using biology. Let me remind you that Shawn Ryan frequently brings on military veterans, intelligence operatives, and whistleblowers. His audience is deeply skeptical of government narratives and corporate agendas.
Yet here's Charles, talking about GMOs to an audience that typically views GMOs as part of a globalist plot to control the food supply bla bla bla... and being well received.
Why I'm bringing it up is because despite decades of attempts at convincing and breaking into this audience group, the synbio industry has failed over and over again.
The industry should be studying this playbook. Instead of fighting and feeding the endless culture wars, Colossal is reframing the entire conversation.
Just some thoughts.

DARPA is a heavyweight champ at supporting of world-changing tech (think: the internet, GPS, stealth, & more). DARPA is great at long-term bets that turn early ideas into revolutionary industries.
The convergence of engineering and biology is exactly where DARPA should focus. Lots of opportunities in this area to change the next 50+ years by funding research happening right now.
DARPA's mission is to create technical surprise for U.S. national security. Biology is a world of wonders. Think self replicating materials or devices that use biochemical communication.
A big area is materials that incorporate living systems or proteins. There are few examples of these right now, but they can be as ubiquitous as smart phones in a few decades. Examples include hyper-responsive composites, materials that repair themselves, responsive materials that produce signals (light, electrical, scent), and tunable metamaterials. Everything from furniture, clothing, food containers, and construction materials can be revolutionized by mixing biology with existing materials.
DARPA can also catalyze a biotech revolution in manufacturing. Boom flipped what was thought as possible supersonic travel by embracing modern tech. The way we make chemicals and materials could be completely reimagined by harnessing readily available biotech and designing factories from the ground up. This will take more than re-applying pharma fermentation to industrial scale. With DARPA's long-term support, we could have decentralized, efficient, and modular factories that outcompete and outproduce the current systems.
Our enemies might come after our natural resources. DARPA can fund innovations that can restore natural environments and invigorate depleted ecosystems. Emerging biotech can remove toxins and microplastics from the environment, help plants better utilize nutrients, restore soil, harvest metals from waste, and capture usable resources like water from the air.
