Dorset Nightjars:
A collaboration between Stour ringing group, Bournemouth university students and Biotrack providing daily updates from Poole's Nightjars.
I'm told this may be the 1st female Scarlet Darter seen (and seen mating) in the UK - there will be better photos but hopefully these are enough to clinch it - pale stripe between the wing bases and orange patch at base of hindwings both visible @BDSdragonflies@Migrantdragons
@petey632@DorsetBirdClub@harbourbirds@DorsetWildlife@DorsetHeaths Glad you got to see some birds Peter, it was very successful, we caught one more after too. Never tire of a Nightjar, such great birds and hope our work continues to assist in thier conservation. Thanks for coming.
Two Nightjar chicks doing well on a Dorset heathland. Both ringed now and fingers crossed they’ll fledge successfully 🤞🏻
Just look at how camouflaged they are!
Monitored with @DNightjars and under @_BTO Nest Record Scheme.
Our AGM will be at 7.00 on Thurs 25 July at the Allendale Centre, Wimborne. There will be a presentation on the Club's strategy 'Shaping the Future' and at 8.00 a talk by Edward Mayer of Swift Conservation https://t.co/hoZ7VYAjp7
Non-members welcome to the Swift talk.
Was great to get out to one of the local heathlands to monitor some of our Nightjar nests this afternoon.
Two chicks found from the 12 scrapes visited. Aren’t they adorable? 🥰
(Monitored under the @_BTO nest record scheme and for @DNightjars)
Gotta think the UK Nightjars are similarly having a hard time of it, to early to tell, yet to be monitoring any nests but here's hoping things improve very soon!!

Feels like Belgian #nightjars are having a hard time. Cold, wet and likely the absence of sufficient #moths. Found four abandoned nests yesterday. Captured males weigh only 60g (normally 65-75) and are very skinny.

Back in June we posted about a ringed Natterer's Bat that we caught whilst undertaking our Nightjar study, which proved to be of great excitement within the Dorset Bat group too. Lovely to see a small piece about this individual in the Dec edition of British Wildlife. @_BCT_

Wow! My first scientific paper just published at @SciReports !
A telemetry study shows that an endangered nocturnal avian species roosts in extremely dry habitats to avoid predation
