In 1961, a mafia in Kentucky drugged a former NFL quarterback and put him in bed with a stripper.
George Ratterman had played for the Cleveland Browns. Now he was running for sheriff, promising to shut down the gambling and prostitution that had made Newport, Kentucky the original “Sin City.”
The mob lured him to a hotel suite above the Tropicana nightclub and drugged him.
When he came to, he was undressed and in bed with a stripper named April Flowers. Three Newport cops burst in the room to arrest him.
But instead of ending his campaign, he fought back and the set-up fell apart.
A blood test found the drugs in his system and the stripper later admitted he was unconscious.
Ratterman won the election. And with help from FBI agents sent by Robert Kennedy, he cleaned out the town.
“In four years I got rid of the gambling and the prostitution,” he said, “and I didn’t get killed.”
The moon peeks out from behind PPG Place earlier this morning in Pittsburgh. My plan was to shoot the moon when it was slightly higher and centered with PPG but stupid me forgot to charge my camera battery and it died just as the moon was getting into place. I was able to get my camera back on for this shot, just a little too late. #pittsburgh
Major has now spent more than 570 days alone in a kennel at Austin's animal shelter.
On Sept 29 a federal judge said he'd rule within 10 days on whether an outside expert can evaluate him. That was almost four weeks ago and the public court record still shows no ruling. The judge held a status conference by Zoom on Oct 19. Then on Oct 22 Major's owner asked the court to narrow his lawsuit down to one claim, the disability rights claim under the ADA, and the city didn't oppose it.
Nothing filed since Oct 7, when both sides agreed to extend the order stopping the city from putting him down, says that protection has ended. So Major is still waiting. Still no human touch.
If you missed it, a driver hit Major on a walk in March 2025. Hurt and scared, he bit a woman who was trying to lift him into a car. His owner says Major helps him with a brain injury and seizures. Austin wants him put down. All his owner is asking for is an independent evaluation first.
More than 54,000 people have signed the petition to free him.
Call Mayor Kirk Watson's office at 512-978-2100 and ask the city to allow an independent evaluation of Major before anyone makes this permanent.
How much longer does a dog sit in a cage waiting on a ruling that was due on Oct 9?

💔 Max has spent more than half his life waiting for a second chance.
When Max (#LA0003) was just a puppy, he was adopted, only to be heartbreakingly returned five months later because he had "too much energy." That was more than four and a half years ago... and now, at 6 years old, Max is still waiting for someone to see the incredible dog he's become.
When Max first arrived, he was timid and unsure of the world around him. But thanks to the patience, training, and dedication of our Pet Behavior team, he's blossomed into a loyal, loving Labrador/Hound mix who has learned to trust and is ready to give his whole heart to the right person.
Max is happiest when he's stretching his legs, exploring, and then curling up beside his favorite human after a day of adventure. He's looking for an experienced adopter who can continue building his confidence, with a large fenced-in yard where he can run, play, and simply be a dog. Max would do best as the only pet in an adult-only home.
Every day, Max watches other dogs leave for their forever homes, wondering when it will finally be his turn.
We know his person is out there. Maybe they just haven't met him yet.
For more information on Max, please email [email protected] or come our Port Washington, NY Adoption Center and see why everyone who knows him believes he's worth the wait. His forever family could be just one visit away. 💛🐾

She’s looking for a calm, experienced, adults-only home where she can feel safe and understood. Alice would prefer to be your one and only, soaking up all the love and attention she’s been dreaming of. ❤️
Alice has been so strong for so long. She deserves a soft place to land, and a family who will choose her every single day.

25 OCT 2026 💔💔💔💔💔💔
These beautiful pups have come from awful conditions. They have never been out on walks, have lived in their own faeces and have had little to no socialisation with people or other dogs.
When we collected them, most were completely shut down. They froze when taken outside on a lead, and it was heartbreaking to see. They now have a chance to learn what it means to feel safe, loved and cared for.
All six are severely underweight, with a body condition score of just 1. They have a long road ahead, but we are determined to give them the happy, healthy lives they deserve.
WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP!
We have already spent over £800 on their initial vaccinations and microchipping. They still need further vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, neutering, veterinary care and ongoing rehabilitation. With six pups to care for, the costs will quickly add up.
Please help us give these pups the fresh start they deserve. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. If you cannot donate, please share!

I’m worried about my boy. I have tears just thinking about losing him.
Yesterday was the first time he’s ever skipped a meal. He threw up a few days ago, and this morning, I found the remnants of another vomit pile.
We just celebrated four years together, and I’ve lost most of my rescues at the four-year mark. I told him that can’t happen with him.
With my Daisy, I noticed she skipped one meal and threw up twice. I took her to my vet for lab work and an ultrasound, and they found a splenic tumor. We did surgery, only to discover it had spread to her liver. She died in my arms, thrashing around on my living room floor just two weeks later. It was one of the most traumatic experiences I’ve ever had losing a dog.
Her name keeps coming up in recent days, and the number 411 keeps showing up several times a day. That’s the day I rescued Daisy.
She better not be coming to collect Blue. I cannot lose my boy. He is the last I have of Echo, the last I have of Wash. I need him. 🥺
I asked my vet if he can squeeze in an ultrasound on Tuesday. I even asked Blue if he’s going to be getting chemo like his brother, because I’ll do anything to keep him here.
I don’t post him often, and not everyone knows Farm Dog, but he is my heart and he is my whole world.
Please be okay, Blue dog. Your mama needs you and you are still my number one. ❤️
