@GuillemBalague@in_albis68 A fabulous, resilient city. Vibrant, friendly and welcoming. A cathedral, a synagogue and a grand mosque all within a couple of hundred metres. Terrific bars and restaurants. My favourite European city. What a recovery from the awful 4 year siege and bombardment of the early 90s
@copdawoot@fbunational I'm confused. Which gravy train - specifically the Fire Brigade Union - are unions terrified will dry up? Could you provide examples/details please?
@mudgod85@DisavowTrump20 If you go into a store and use your credit card to buy lots of things, is it the store's fault when you can't afford your credit card bill?
@MikeMay69@fourcheeze @Faux_losophy @Aiannucci Perhaps there are many Muslims (a majority? ) who don't agree with the attitude of parts of the quran around gender/sexuality but still identify as Muslim in the way most (the majority? ) of Christians wouldn't want to follow the attitudes in the Bible towards slavery/stoning?
@Olewin3 @bollyweed@DerbyChrisW@HollyBlomberg@BBCNews I'm not sure it matters, but the Roman polytheistic religion was in Britain before Christianity. But I wouldn't too be happy if a new nation of Italians were given the majority of Britain to rule and me and my family displaced and persecuted
@MetroMayorSteve There are interesting videos available about bike usage in Amsterdam and Copenhagen. They used to be the same as any other city. Making cycling more attractive didn't really work initially , they had to make driving horrendous. Now Copenhagen road deaths are down 97%
@mikegalsworthy This morning I was greeted outside the polling station by a sweet looking old lady wearing a lib dem rosette. She began to talk but I said - politely - that I wasn't going to speak to her as I was going to work.
She then asked to see my polling card?
Er.. No!
@Elliott_etc @WinniBeerGeek@JacksonPokorney@krassenstein In the UK you'd be confronted by the security guard (if the shop has one) or a member of staff (if they were prepared to)
AFAIK a suspected thief can be restrained using "reasonable force" until the police arrive.
They *definitely* wouldn't be shot by the public for shoplifting
@majorprivate080@TippleTrendl@jburnmurdoch Just about everyone drinks unfiltered tap water in England (and the wider UK). How do I know? I'm a former plumber who had his head under literally thousands of sinks. I saw filters in (approx) 0.5% of houses
@absoluteradio@bushontheradio@RichieFirth Do you remember Phil Cool from 80s TV. He was a comedian whose act was based on his incredible gurning ability. His biscuit sketch is a classic! He finished the sketch with the hob nob, the King of dunkers
@BallastUndergr1 @hillman1878 @sophielouisecc I think you're looking at it the wrong way around.
It's not benefits that are too high.
It's wages are too low
@MarkM92252942@Kevin_Maguire My partner arrived in the UK as a refugee and asylum seeker. She had quite nice shoes on. Because she fled an invasion and genocide with just a bag of belongings that doesn't mean that's all she ever had.
Refugees had a life before they became refugees
