@DrJLush @AdamPOlsen @FDs4PCinBC Thanks to all who attended. An informative discussion with lots of views from people with a great deal of knowledge and experience.
Thanks @MikeSmythNews for having me on your show today. Enjoyed sharing with your listeners on why family docs are a dying breed here in British Columbia.
There are commonsense solutions to the problem at hand:
➡️ Time based fee for service
➡️ Pay equity with other doctors
80% of family docs are on fee for service - it's antiquated. Immediate changes will stem the tide of early retirements and closures.
Time to modernize fee for service to include time-based modifiers that equalize @BCFamilyDoctors pay with other docs.
@jjhorgan@CTVVancouver
@CMan_CCFP @BCFamilyDoctors @jjhorgan@adriandix It’s very clear that the majority of FPs want to remain on Fee for service and see it improved.
Listening to FPs will help us out of this crisis. False narratives will not.
What can we do almost immediately to stop early family doctors from retirements and practice closures?
➡️Immediately enact time based fee for service by adding a new fee code like in 2020
➡️ensure pay equity for family doctors
@KellyRichmondBC @AmanSinghNDP @henryyaomla
Fee for service is an agile system. In 2020 @adriandix change how @BCFamilyDoctors practiced overnight by introducing tele-health fee codes. This same action can be applied to solve our crisis NOW - time based FFS.

@BCFamilyDoctors spend time with their patients, but current FFS system values quantity over quality.
Time to change this! We need time based fee for service. 80% of doctors are on FFS, so it represents an immediate solution to the problem of valuing quality over quantity. 2/2.
Often I hear that false narrative that @BCFamilyDoctors do not want fee for service. A 2021 study showed only 48% of family docs want "an alternate payment plan". And who wouldn't?
Our current FFS is antiquated. 1/2
#bcpoli@DoctorsOfBC@BCCFP@mary_cranston@PennyDaflos
This study is often quoted showing that "all family doctors want to end fee for service".
This simply isn't true. A recent informal survey of @BCFamilyDoctors in private practice show that 101/117 want to keep fee for service and for it to be enhanced.
@jjhorgan@adriandix
@drawolak@mary_cranston@CTVVancouver Yes, the majority of FPs in BC want to remain on Fee For Service and see it improved. Many have suggested a similar fee for service model as our neighbours in AB use -it seems to work well for them where they don’t have an FP crisis and many FPs continue to accept patients.
Dear Health Secretary,
180+ NHS staff have died.
We have highest number of deaths in Europe!
It’s high time you apologise to the nation for criminal negligence in fighting #Covid19UK
RT if you want him to publicly apologise.
The UK is the worst place to be in the world in terms of Covid19. We have known this would be the case for weeks. The government has failed yet @BorisJohnson, @MattHancock et al. continue to lie about their success. Unacceptable. https://t.co/r8bYgRCKyD
Dr Rinesh Parmar DAUK Chair @GasDocRP wrote to the Chief Coroner on Thursday in a robust reply to advice that coroner’s inquests should not take into account a lack of PPE in investigating healthcare worker deaths. This is wholly disappointing and must be addressed urgently.
