My dad is having prostate surgery today. He's had a catheter for months. Yesterday it came apart. Since he's having surgery today, he didn't go to the ER, he fixed it with a hose clamp.
He brought a hex head screwdriver to the hospital in case the doctors didn't have one.
Welcome to the Rocket Lab team, Mynaric!
Today we officially acquired Mynaric, adding laser optical communications to our growing space systems portfolio. A big moment for our teams and for the space industry as we make leading satellite laser communication technology available at the volume and speed demanded by commercial and government satellite customers across Europe, the U.S., and rest of world.
Rocket Lab has received regulatory approval to acquire Mynaric ✅
The transaction has been approved by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. As a result we expect the transaction to close in April.
@lukeweston The device consists of a cubic array made up of hundreds of small quadrupoles (one prominent version is a 486-quadrupole model) that form multiple ion entry and exit ports.
Most mass spectrometers still analyze molecules one or just a few at a time. Now, a new MultiQ-IT prototype from Rockefeller's Brian Chait described in @ScienceAdvances can cool, trap, filter, and redirect over a billion ions simultaneously.

10 cm sized optical rectennas can communicate clearly over 2000 km distance, giving satellites a compact 2D alternative to radio or lasers for delivering data.
Wavelength 1550 nm.
Immense planning and technical precision was required for this absolutely preposterous (but real) view: I captured my friend @BlackGryph0n transiting the sun during a skydive.
This might be the first photo of it's kind in existence. See a video of this moment in the reply 👇
⚡ Meet Lightning ⚡Our powerhouse spacecraft platform built for high-power, long-life missions in low Earth orbit & beyond.
Right now, our Long Beach team is building Lightning satellites at scale to power two major constellations:
🔹 17 satellites for @Globalstar's next-gen constellation that will extend the life of their messaging and IoT services fleet.
🔹 18 satellites for the @SemperCitiusSDA Tranche 2 Transport Layer-Beta constellation to enable secure, low-latency comms for the warfighter.
When the mission calls for serious endurance, Lightning strikes. 🔗 https://t.co/EZdcIK6ZWC
Here's a video of the transit shot if you missed it when I shared it last week. That plume is crazy.
Also a heads up- the print from this image is coming off my shop tomorrow, so consider this your last call if you want one! It's still linked in my bio.
This week, York and @SemperCitiusSDA made history. York successfully established first contact & confirmed health of all 21 T1TL satellites within hours of launch. These satellites are the backbone of a resilient comms architecture that will give decision advantage to the warfighter, strengthen deterrence, & help secure the future of our nation & our allies. https://t.co/13ViBVPP4x
