@michaeldlane The zoning aspects of the housing crisis - yes, I bet he’s right! But financing is a huge element of the crisis as well. And rezoning in this way means besting nimbyism & the fiscalization of land use, so we’ve got our work cut out for us.
Governor @GavinNewsom: Do the right thing and #SignSB961 to save lives.
Please RESHARE this post & then email Newsom at https://t.co/Ob3aTA9KPl.

@noeldacosta@BrentToderian@Rich_Harris The point isn’t the less commuting the better - rather that walking often lifts the spirits whereas driving can be a killjoy.
@WezPyke@BrentToderian The point isn’t the less commuting the better - rather that walking often lifts the spirits whereas driving can be a killjoy. People who who choose to live closer to their jobs (even if it means a smaller home) are typically happier.
@brostoevksy@SJSpotlight Without affordable homes, the folks priced out may include your kid’s teacher, your favorite waiter, the nurse who treats you with a smile, your handyman, that barista who remembers your order, your house cleaner. We all pay higher prices due to the tight labor/housing market.
@beyondchron @Daniel___Owens @busgus@beyondchron You’re mixing up the Old Mint in SOMA with the *existing* Mint - that OP astutely points out is squatting on a large chunk of Mint Hill doing f all for San Francisco besides looking fortressy.
The real reason SF can’t get out of its housing mess? Sex noise, according to elected official Aaron Peskin (it’s his proxy for density) Oddly, other dense cities like Vienna don’t let sex-noise-slash-density get in the way of housing folks. https://t.co/uLbbswRG1R
Giant milestone for new housing I’ve been shepherding at N Berkeley BART! This means the multi-phase, 50% affordable project has a good chance of speedy approval.
Tonight Berkeley City Council approved objective design standards for North Berkeley BART which is more exciting than it might sound.
This was Council’s final vote allowing housing development to happen!
Soon 750 homes - 50% affordable- will replace parking lots at N Berk BART!
@OnnoKonemann@maxdubler The original frames of 100+ year old windows? Cause they are inevitably warped out of plumb, have rotten bits, and the sashes likely won’t fit double panes. In my pre-quake San Fran house, nearly every window was a disaster and we replaced them all…with double panes wood ones.
@web4O@our_nextlife Yes, my camp of ~90 people rents 2 containers nearby, so nearly all our gear, except what’s worn out, gets reused from year to year. Lots of big camps do this & get their containers delivered on-site. Some burners do suck, but not all.
Horribly slanted article: yes, teens do some dumb stuff, but ‘witnesses had told her that her son ‘did everything right,’ including signaling to make a left turn.” What we need: safer roads and drivers who expect & respect people on bikes.
Children riding e-bikes were killed by motorists driving large vehicles on deadly infrastructure and the @nytimes calls them “e-bike accidents.” Which is a bit like calling a rash of school shootings “cafeteria accidents.” The danger on our roads is cars. https://t.co/1vDYWHGaEn
A viral video this week made the curious claim that self-driving robotaxis on SF streets can be brought to a halt with the placement of an orange cone on the vehicle’s hood. Cruise and Waymo have both said the jokers doing this need to stop. https://t.co/G5u0n3FCW9
I’ve submitted the People over Parking Act, a bill that eliminates parking minimums across the country in transit rich zones. We are in a housing crisis and eliminating parking requirements lowers costs to build. It’s good housing & climate policy. Let’s get this done.
@Amritpa1 @43Masonic With as few as 4 plastic posts/block in each direction, plus a low mountable strip, I’m not AT ALL convinced drivers will stay out of the bike lanes. The plastic posts ought to be at this density used in Oakland.
Tennessee Rep. Justin Jones, who was unjustly expelled today from the TN House of Representatives, was born in Oakland & graduated from Hercules High. The entire East Bay community is incredibly proud of him for standing up to support gun safety legislation & protect kids. #AD14
@TheRealJoshGalt@DiMentor A few reasons: school, visiting pals, tacos, playground, boba, picnic at Dolores Park, music lesson, Day of the Dead, pizza, catch BART, birthday party, walking the dog, soccer at Garfield Park, carnaval…my 12 year old was born in the Mission & we’re going strong in the 94110.
