Rain, a spoiler well that was understood. How Asia Cup 2023 has been ruined in terms of brand value & broadcasting revenues is inexplicable?
Most of the broadcasters must have had their inventories insured, I am quite sure, some in the Pakistan territory will suffer.
Why did @TheRealPCB being the hosts agree to hybrid model? Here a consensual agreement was a much better idea.
And @JayShah predominating, not allowing the tournament to be hosted in the UAE ensured majority of the matches were taken to Sri Lanka.
Politics or power play whatever, it hurt the profile of the tournament. The adamancy to have it hosted in SL & further the matches not shifted to other venues but Colombo, which was already rain hit & didn’t have promising forecasts?
What have ACC gained or for that matter BCCSL?
Why did PCB concede to all this?
Threatened, out of incompetence or anything else going on at the back end?
Why did PCB sign the host agreement?
Why did they agree to remove hosts country’s name from the team playing kits?
Why did they concede having nine matches hosted in Sri Lanka?
Why couldn’t only India play their matches off shore while the rest could have been staged in Pakistan?
Is it about Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary, the ACC President or Jay Shah Head of the Commercial & Finance Committee of the ICC?
Did PCB turn weak on their knees because of their revenue increase in the new model?
ICC earned USD 208.50 million annually which has now increased to USD 600 million yearly
India were getting USD 46.6 million annually @ 22.4%.
Jay Shah now the Chairman of the Commercial & Finance Committee of the ICC first picked the like minded.
Committee’s potent member is Indra Nooyi from India, the ex Head of Coca Cola, USA & Ankur Khanna from India is the Secretary.
They came up with a model for 2023 to 2027.
New model’s weightings were masterly derived or orchestrated where Full Members fee was kept equal but to benefit the BCCI, India the source of major revenue, new denominations such as cricket, performance & commercial % were prescribed.
None challenged?
Keeping in view India hasn’t won a ICC Tournament in the last 10 years, the last 16 years were made the benchmark.
The new broadcasting rights cycle saw ICC dividing the exclusive global rights into 2. One rest of the world, the other India alone based on commercial, corporate & consumer demands.
India will be getting USD 231 Million annually @ 38.50%.
Pakistan were getting USD 14.7 Million yearly @ 7.1% will now be receiving USD 34.51 million annually at 5.75%.
Where our Chairmen of the PCB were playing meek Shah trumped all.
As it has been told, Shah ensured Greg Barclay an unopposed election to the office of the ICC Chairman.
Surprisingly, on the last day of submission of papers Shah offered T. Mukushlani to file his nomination papers.
Shah promised a USD 15 M tour of India team to Zimbabwe which transpired recently.
Once Barclay returned to Shah, he was assured he’ll be elected uncontested provided he fulfilled certain demands- Shah needed his recommended HR to head Event Management of the ICC, the Head of Media & couple of GMs.
Mukushlani withdrew.
Shah got hold of the administrative control.
Contingency allowance was increased 100% in the new financial model.
Australia & England had issues.
They were assured by Shah India will play 5 Test home & away series with their teams annually to help them benefit financially.
It’s indeed a smart corporate move & he has pulled the best for BCCI though not realising it has left international cricket hugely polarized.
It doesn’t seem far away big 3 will be on one side, & rest of the fraternity will be contemplating options such as becoming part of the integrated private leagues.
If we have to make our cricket relevant we don’t need political or ceremonial irrelevant heads of PCB. We need relevant men of credibility. So much still can be done. @iRashidLatif68 @krick3r
