CONDEMNATION OF THE BRUTAL KILLING OF NURSE CHINEMEREM PASCALINA CHUWUMEZIEM OF FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE, ABUJA
I write on behalf of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), FCT Council, to express our deep sorrow, outrage, and total condemnation of the unjust and brutal killing of our innocent young colleague, Nurse Chinemerem Pascalina Chuwumeziem, who was in active service with the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.
The deceased nurse, having spent her day rendering selfless service to humanity and saving lives, closed from afternoon duty on 3rd January 2026 and boarded a vehicle on her way home. Tragically, she never made it home alive. Her lifeless body was later discovered, dumped in a most inhumane and heartbreaking manner. This wicked and senseless act is not only an attack on the nursing profession but also an assault on healthcare workers and humanity at large.
We hereby call on the entire security architecture in the Federal Capital Territory—including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—to immediately conduct a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death and ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice without delay.
The continuous harassment and attacks on nurses have further exposed the alarming level of insecurity faced daily by healthcare workers, particularly while commuting to and from duty. Our lives are no longer safe. Nurses leave their homes daily to save lives, yet many are uncertain of returning alive to their families.
We strongly call on the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to urgently strengthen security around all hospitals in the FCT and at major junctions where nurses and other healthcare workers board vehicles, especially during early morning and late-night shifts. Where feasible, government should also provide safe and organised transportation for nurses to and from their places of work in order to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
Furthermore, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Management of the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja, as well as nurses in the FCT and across Nigeria, over this painful and irreparable loss of our beloved daughter and dear colleague. We share in your grief and pray that God grants you the strength and fortitude to bear this devastating loss.
We demand justice for our fallen colleague and urgent government intervention to guarantee the safety and security of all nurses and healthcare workers in the Federal Capital Territory. Anything short of decisive action will further expose nurses to danger and erode public confidence in the nation’s security system.

Nurse Kojo Gidaikori Priscillia, a dedicated Nigerian nurse, has spent her life caring for others. Unfortunately, she now needs our help.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, she bravely underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Just when she thought she was on the mend, tests revealed that the cancer had returned, and she now requires further treatment.
Having exhausted her savings and sold her belongings to cover medical costs, Nurse Kojo needs ₦3 million for her next round of radiotherapy and essential tests.
This compassionate caregiver who has devoted her life to helping others now needs our support. Every contribution, big or small, brings her closer to healing.
Let’s unite to help Nurse Kojo in her fight for life. 💕

Yesterday, I was inaugurated as President of NUNSA OAU @ifenursing

So I eventually took my Chairman to court. This is not to embarrass him, but to remind him that Democracy lives in the questions we’re bold enough to ask.
It is not news that some weeks ago, the newly refurbished gate of the Ikere Local Government Secretariat was unveiled with fanfare. It was shiny, bold, and freshly painted, it was like a showpiece for what the audience could call the Chairman’s performance. I have said before that performance is relative. So I am not very bothered about that. But then came the whispers. From the market stalls to WhatsApp chats, people started saying: “That gate cost between fifteen and thirty five million naira.” Nobody could say for sure, but tongues kept wagging.
I am not one to chase rumours. I don’t believe in pulling down leaders with speculation. And I’m not interested in street gossip or party fights. So instead of shouting, I picked up my pen, or rather, my lawyer’s pen. I wrote the Chairman, officially, to ask: “How much did the gate really cost? Where is the contract? The budget? The audit report?” I made my request under the Ekiti State Freedom of Information Law (2011). This was a law that was passed by our government and party, which gives every citizen, including me, the right to know how public funds are used.
But he didn’t respond. No explanation. No documents. Nothing. Just silence. And in that moment, I was reminded that governance is not a favour, it is a duty. And asking for transparency isn’t rebellion, as some would assume or have been whispering within the government corridor, it’s a responsibility of all and the progressives, if we are one.
So I took it a step further. I headed to court.
Yes, I sued him. I have challenged my party man, my party leader in the LG, and my Chairman. Not because I hate him. Not because we disagree politically. But because I believe that politics is not governance. We can share party platforms, work together to ensure our government returns/remains in Power, and still demand accountability when public trust is on the line. Loyalty to party should never override loyalty to the people, and to my conscience.
And let me be clear: this is not about the Governor. Some have pinned my audacity, to fighting the Governor, for reasons best known to them. In fact, one thing many of us will agree on is that Mr. Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), does not touch a kobo from the Local Government allocations in Ekiti State. He has maintained a principled stance of non-interference. The LG Chairmen have stated this times without number. The Deputy Governor also confirmed same at every LG projects commissioned. So if funds are mismanaged or transparency is ignored at the local level, we must hold the Chairmen accountable, not pass the blame up.
In the Ekiti State High Court, where I have sought to seek My Lady's help, I asked for just four things:
1. That the court declares my right to access the financial records of Ikere LG vis-a-vis the audit, the approved budget, and the account showing how much came in from Abuja.
2. That the court confirms the Chairman has no power to withhold this information.
3. That he be ordered to release the documents, and
4. Pay the cost of this legal action.
For me, it’s not just about a gate. It’s about a culture that must be reviewed, because if care is not taken, we will degenerate further when the Local Government becomes 100% autonomous with funds paid directly to them. As a matter of fact, abuse would be imminent. At the moment, we are battling with a culture where local governments spend without explaining, build without accounting, and govern without listening.
This must end!
We know Nobody will be sacked,
We know nobody will be punished,
We know no investigation into why 300 dental students were admitted into the university of Calabar when the quota is 10,
We know the VC will not be questioned,
We know nobody will look into who benefited from it,
We know if we say nothing, the VC will succeed in expelling over 300 dental students after wasting 6years of their lives in UniCal studying dentistry.

Today, I had the pleasure of receiving a student of Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon, the One Day Governor and Overall Winner of the 20th Edition of the Spelling Bee Competition, at Lagos House, Marina.
Abdulazeez was accompanied by Oki Sewanu, the One Day Deputy Governor, who is a student at Ansar-Ud-Deen Senior Grammar School in Badagry, and Saheed Alimot-Odere, the One Day Secretary to the State Government, a student at Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School, Coker Aguda.
This experience not only showcased the talents of these outstanding students but also emphasized the importance of educational competitions in nurturing the potential of our young minds.
These are the next generation of leaders, and I am confident that with continued support and encouragement, they will achieve great things and lead us toward a brighter future.
