Very proud of this work with @DoGenetics and Ha My Vy on detecting undiagnosed rare disease in the UK Biobank with deep learning, now up on medRxiv - a great Christmas present to us! Stay tuned after the holidays for another preprint on this DL model and an explainer thread.
Launched over a decade ago with the scientific mission of studying the functioning of the human brain in health and disease, the Living Brain Project has produced a large publicly available resource for studying the "living brain".
Very excited for my talk at #ASHG2023 — come see me at 10:30 in room 146B! I'll be talking about using AI to improve the power of rare variant association studies for rare disease in the UK Biobank. Shaping up to be a great session on AI in human genetics
.@DrDanielJordan presenting today at 10:30 am in the ‘AI meets human genetics’ ASHG platform session (Room 146B) on ‘Deep learning enables gene discovery of ultra-rare coding variants for rare diseases’!! #ASHG23#ASHG2023
I’m excited to share REGatta, a project by @James_D_Fife from @CassaLabBWH which uses biobank data to estimate the clinical risk of rare variants within regions of established disease genes – Open access link @AJHGNews https://t.co/pIzkntNXrk 🧵
@tithenai @flipwriter AND why wouldn't you give as a mother's day gift a book about loving someone so hard it brings an entire new future timeline into existence
On the off chance there is anybody who follows me who is not already a fan of Max Gladstone, you should read every book in this thread! Max is one of my favorite living authors and also one of my favorite living humans generally.
Hi! If you’re new around here, I’m Max, and I write books! They go heavy on skeletons, wizards, monsters, dead gods, capitalism-as-necromantic-force, trying to do what we can to take care of folks in a horrifying world, queerness, violence, love…
📢 Revolutionizing autoimmune disease testing with #AI! Overjoyed that my study is out @NatureComms https://t.co/NerQSF4V5h 🙌🏻
We use #MachineLearning to predict who needs testing & rheumatologist for lupus, RA, etc. by analyzing EHRs

@LouisShekhtman@aliceschwarze I'm not even sure if that works at this point, I've applied to a few jobs where I knew someone on the committee and been told they can't help me, it's just too competitive.
Really cool work from longtime friend and collaborator Dan Balick. He uses math from quantum field theory to solve for what happens to allele frequencies under selection in non-equilibrium demography. Lots of fascinating behavior — incredible how much we miss by assuming equilib
Congrats to @IainSForrest on getting this cool and innovative work published in @TheLancet! This was a fun project to work on. Using ML/AI to translate case/control diagnoses into a continuous spectrum is a really interesting and promising application of AI to health care.
Christmas came early... my first paper of my postdoc is officially published @TheLancet!!

This was a wild journey with the @DoGenetics lab to build a digital marker for heart disease using AI + electronic health records🫀🤖 Here's why:

Excited to present our newly published paper, "Molecular states during acute COVID-19 reveal distinct etiologies of long-term sequelae."
Here we identify multiple distinct processes leading to #LongCOVID that have already started during acute #COVID_19.

@livefreeandbi I'd be happy to try -- my school doesn't always pay for humanities journals, but if it's remotely medical I'll probably be able to grab it for you
Great to see work of African scientists highlighted in presidential symposium at #ASHG22. Some stellar work from ppl and institutions I know next to nothing about bc of my own network's bias. Really makes me wish for more big international conferences in Africa, esp outside of SA
If you're at #ASHG22 come to my talk at 9:45 Wednesday, ProgNbr 117! I'll be presenting my work with @OmegaPetrazzini on predicting recessive disease alleles. And look for all this other incredible work from the Do lab too!
