December 2nd: Council of the Godhead loosed me from the quivers in eternity. I breathed my first in time on this date in the neighbourhood of five decades ago. My parents, both of the Igala extraction in Nigeria, stirred by counsel of the Godhead, named me Arome which neatly translates to ‘The Rewarder’.

By grace and mercy, the Lord became my lot early in life. I have journeyed through life under the sun on the rails of His will. I have stumbled on the heels of my humanity severally but the excellency of His faithfulness has not faltered in coming through for me —no, not once!

As I draw more breath, His everlasting arms bear me —from my home to the ends of the earth. My apostleship makes sense of it all. I lift up my eyes to the Highest alone; I lift up my hands to the Possessor of heaven and earth alone. He has taught me to love Him by feeding His sheep. I do not take this privilege lightly.

I engage the binoculars in my spirit, the journey ahead is full of phenomenal and highly profitable opportunities for the gospel of the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ— from Africa to the nations spread on other continents of the world! More souls for Jesus and more ground for the kingdom.

There is ample resistance of the most wicked sort. But the Lord builds His church in spite of the gates of hell. So I do one thing every morning I wake up, thank the Lord for everything because like He said to our patriarch, Abraham,

“I am your SHIELD, your very great REWARD.” (Genesis 15:1)

The Lord is indeed my rewarder and reward.

I am grateful for yet another brand new year in His service!

I have difficulty worshiping God the way I see other people doing it in my church family. I see a lot of outward feeling and exuberance that's just not "me." I also don't connect with modern worship music.

What feels more natural to me is to think about the sheer scope and wonder of this incredible universe we inhabit, and realize that it reflects aspects of its Creator, our heavenly Father. And, as geeky as it sounds, I think about the beauty of advanced math, and it fills me with such awe and reverence.

When I think about the Creator of hundreds of billions of galaxies, all containing billions of stars themselves, the incomprehensible vastness and beauty and order of it all, and then realize that...

...the Creator of all this condescended to put on a humble human body and live among us and experience everything we do...

...and He took on all of our transgressions and died the most painful, sorrowful, humiliating death imaginable, just for us, to cleanse us, to make us worthy to stand before the Father, and to prepare us for the perfection that awaits...

...it's overwhelming. It's simultaneously humbling and elevating. It elicits the most amazing sense of worship I can imagine. I praise Him and thank Him for this all, quietly and privately. It's just the only way that feels natural to me.

As for worship music, I'm inclined to feelings of awe and reverence for my Lord when I listen to beautiful orchestral music. As supremely geeky as it sounds, I feel most reverential when I listen to the inspiring soundtracks to sci-fi movies from the 1970s and 1980s. John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith in particular have such talent for "space music" that's both cosmically grand and sublimely, deeply personal. I'm transported straight to heaven when I listen to it.

I guess we all have to figure out what works for us. If you feel connected to our Lord through traditional or modern church worship, I'm happy for you. But if you're like me, and it just doesn't fit you, I say do whatever works. Connect with Him in whatever personal way speaks to you.
