Richard Osman, a BBC presenter, was basically given five minutes on Radio 4's Today programme this morning to plug his new novel.

It was the sort of promotion opportunity that would cost many thousands of pounds if it were paid-for advertising.

The whole thing seems so incestuous - especially when there are so many unknown (but talented) writers out there struggling to make a break.
