The Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, @CS_MoALD in collaboration with key Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the food value chain, is intensifying preparations for the Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation Summit, scheduled for 7–9 October 2026.

The Summit will bring together farmers, value-chain actors and stakeholders to take stock of the four-year journey under the Agriculture and Food Security Pillar of BETA, assess progress and lessons learned, and set priorities for the next phase of transformation.

Later in the day, the State Department for Agriculture, led by PS Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS, held consultations with @KTDAHoldingsLtd and the @TeaBoardKenya on the Government directive to audit and validate KTDA loans. The exercise seeks to establish an accurate and verifiable position to inform appropriate Government action.

The Government has put in place a comprehensive El Niño preparedness and response plan, assuring Kenyans that all necessary measures are in place to safeguard lives, livelihoods and property. There is no need for panic—only vigilance and preparedness.

This morning in Karen, Nairobi, H.E. Deputy President Prof. @_KithureKindiki chaired a multi-agency meeting to strengthen national preparedness and response to the expected El Niño conditions.

On matters of food and livestock, the Ministry has put in place measures to manage animal diseases and ensure food distribution to communities likely to be affected, particularly in the ASAL areas. These measures include the provision of dryers to address post-harvest losses, as well as seeds for farmers whose production may be affected by the expected rains.

The Tea Board of Kenya and the Department of Weights and Measures have detained eight employees from Litein, Chelal and Kapkatet tea factories, as well as Browns Plantations, over suspected irregularities in the weighing of green leaves delivered by small-scale farmers in Bureti Constituency.

Three of the suspects work at Kapkatet Tea Factory, while the others are affiliated with Litein and Chelal tea factories and Browns Plantations.

The arrests followed a joint inspection by the two government agencies, which visited several tea buying centres, locally known as bandas, without prior notice.

Officials inspected the weighing machines used by tea collection agents to determine the quantity of green leaves delivered by farmers before the produce is transported to processing factories.

The future of tea lies in value addition, innovation and stronger markets.

Today, Kenya hosts the 7th Africa Tea Convention & Exhibition in Nairobi, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, buyers, investors and stakeholders from over 29 countries.

The Convention was officially opened by CS @CS_MoALD Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, alongside PSs Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS (Agriculture), Regina Ombam,@Trade_Kenya and other key stakeholders.

The Government remains committed to value addition, market diversification, innovation and sustainable tea production to enhance farmers’ returns and strengthen Africa’s competitiveness in global markets, particularly through orthodox and specialty teas.

In attendance were @KTDAHoldingsLtd National Chairman Enos Njeru, @TeaBoardKenya Managing Director Willy Mutai, CEOs and other industry stakeholders.

Today, the Government officially opened a four-day International Workshop on Seed Quality and Phytosanitary Systems at @KephisKe Headquarters, Karen, Nairobi, under the theme, “Revitalizing Phytosanitary and Seed Systems for Climate-Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture.”

The workshop brings together experts and key stakeholders from Kenya and across the world to deliberate on seed quality, phytosanitary systems, climate change, emerging pests and diseases, food security, and safe and efficient international trade in plants and plant products.

The event was officiated by Agriculture PS Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh Paul, CBS, who reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening seed quality, plant health, research and regulatory systems to build a climate-resilient agricultural sector, enhance food security and expand safe agricultural trade.

Today, during the 3rd day of H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto ‘s Development Tour of the South Rift, I accompanied the President and other leaders across Kokwet in Kipkelion West, Kapsoit in Ainamoi and Torit in Belgut, Kericho County, later to Kapkoros in Bomet Central and Boito in Konoin, Bomet County.

The Ministry of Agriculture @CS_MoALD was urged to support the upgrading of Kunyak CRI and the Kipkelion Coffee Mill through budgetary interventions of KSh 150 million and KSh 200 million, respectively.

Further, through the @TeaBoardKenya , the Ministry was directed to audit outstanding tea factory loans and establish their status, with a view to Government support through grants for validated loans.

These interventions will strengthen the coffee and tea value chains, support farmers and improve their returns.

Later,accompanied H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto and fellow leaders in Bureti, Kericho County, for the launch of the Panda Polis Road, commissioning of the Kapkatet Modern Market, and inspection of Kapkatet Stadium.

The projects will improve connectivity, strengthen trade, and create better opportunities for farmers and businesses. Improved roads and markets will also facilitate the movement and marketing of tea, coffee, horticultural produce and other agricultural products, supporting better returns for farmers.
