Last day at BIDMC for the incomparable @hectortamezmd before his move to Piedmont Heart.
An incredible interventionalist and even better human. You've improved the lives of thousands of patients while making an indelible impact on all of us at @BidmcCvi.
You will be missed!
It's angioplasty's birthday! #OTD in 1964, using a series of catheters of increasing diameter, Charles Dotter opened a blocked femoral artery w/o surgery. He called it "angioplasty" & made a film to demonstrate it. His radical concept was rejected by US surgeons but embraced by Europeans, ultimately resulting in Gruentzig's balloon which revolutionized the treatment of coronary artery disease. A personal note: today is also my birthday, so I guess I was born to do this!🤣🎈❤️🩹#AngioHistory
A solemn moment here at the Brown University memorial tonight… a little while ago, Kento Suzuki walked up by himself and began playing the Duduk, an ancient Armenian instrument. A family soon joining, overtaken by emotion. @wpri12
Follow up on the previous case,
IVUS showed mid LAD bridge segment (1.5 mm) with diffusely diseased LAD 2 mm
stent proximal to LM, DCB mid segment.
Complete loss of pulsatility each inflation!

Congratulations to Dr. Jacob Møller and colleagues for today's #ESCCongress 2025 late breaking clinical science data and @NEJM publication of long-term data from the DanGer Shock RCT confirming the long-term survival benefit of the Impella CP heart pump

Native heart recovery is the optimal outcome for a heart failure patient. UPMC focused on NHR and recovered 39% of our cardiogenic shock patients receiving Impella 5.5 in 2024. Looking forward to when HF programs post how many Heart Recovery pts they had instead of #OHtx/VAD.
Have you ever wondered if LOPP during HR-PCI meant anything? Interesting 1/2 of HR-PCI pts supported w/ Impella experienced LOPP. It was not benign! LOPP was associated w/ increased rates of MACCE. More to come in the Protect IV trial. @GreggWStone@duanepinto@JWMoses
Impella supported #PCI in chronic CKD. Severe renal dysfunction is associated with worse outcomes at 90 days despite low risk of PCI related complications in a high-risk group. Insights from cVAD PROTECT III Study #cardiotwitter#AHAJournals

congratulations to you and your team for a fantastic Protected PCI result - complex and high risk patient treated with the skills of your team and the technology available to help patients. Great work!
Our analysis of patients with chronic kidney disease (first report of dialysis pts) who received Impella assisted HRPCI in Protect III @CircIntv#CirculationIntv#MedTwitter#CardioTwitter
💥Lower eGFR had more severely calcified CAD, greater atherectomy usage but no increased risk of procedural complications
💥eGFR <30/dialysis pts had higher 90 day MACE and 1 year mortality (in line with other PCI & CABG studies)
💥no statistically significant differences in outcomes between groups until eGFR<30

@TimTebow My patient’s waiting for a heart transplant @ Mayo Clinic Florida. He’s kept alive by a heart pump called impella. AKA TIMpella.” Thanks 4 being his inspiration. Getting stronger. Would love 4 u to come over & coach him in person! @MayoClinic @MayoTransplant @Abiomed
So honored to be awarded with #scai2024 ‘s 30 early career interventional cardiologists in their 30s. Grateful to my family and mentors who have supported me through this journey and have fostered my growth @SCAI@mirvatalasnag#maythe4thbewithyou 💃🏽👩⚕️❤️
