@FrankYanWang Yes, 45 days is optimal time decay time frame for being short theta, (always being aware of earnings). Longer from expiration the time decay is “too slow” (you’re not getting paid quick enough for carrying the risk).

@FrankYanWang The “system” (credit to Tom Sosnoff) I’ve had most success with selling puts is to close the trade with either 50% gain or at 21 days to expiration. After that gamma starts creeping up and trouble follows. Would look to open these trades around 45 days to expiration.

@jaminball Hey Jamin, the issue in this case is the fact that the buyer was an existing investor.
IRS considers the premium as compensation for the individual. The Company has to withhold ordinary income taxes and employer taxes. These are expenses to the Company.

Preferably buy the long puts when mkt doing well and vol is cheap, wait to sell the lower strikes puts on down moves when vix up. Long ~ 25 delta, short 16 delta. 2-3 months out
