It is unfortunate that this is happening and contributes to the rise of the obesity epidemic. As a future healthcare professional, I hope to inform my future patients about possible drugs in processed foods that make us want to keep eating them. #beh353@beh353
"Obesity is rising because of more than just changes in our food supply. Chemical & drug companies are exposing us to endocrine-disrupting chemicals that contribute to the problem." So do stress, trauma, inactivity ... a complex problem! @ConscienHealth

@jazlynn_pang@beh353 I agree! We definitely need carbohydrates in our diet, along with proteins and fats. Having less of one macronutrient can help with short term health problems; however, it is important to have the recommended amounts of each to stay healthy long term. #beh353@beh353
I hope to use my knowledge of diets to give recommendations to my future patients. Diets only help with short term health problems, so they are not long term solutions. I will also use my knowledge on popular press articles to recommend to my future patients. #beh353@beh353
We should definitely limit our intake of processed foods as they can be detrimental to our digestive and overall health. I wonder if commercially made foods contribute to the growing obesity epidemic in the US? #beh353@beh353
Another good reason to limit your intake of commercially made foods: fewer emulsifiers (like polysorbate 80) that can alter your gut microbiome and health.

@A_Kulkarni1206@beh353 Hi Avani, great advice! I will definitely do some research before I trust any information that nutrition posts say. I typically never have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, but I might give it a try this time around! Have a great Thanksgiving! #beh353@beh353
I will always look for sources on every nutrition post to see if what they say is valid or factual. Now for the fun question, I am most looking forward to eating turkey on Thanksgiving because I’m in charge of the making the turkey this year! #beh353@beh353
Well said! It is unfortunate that adolescents are made fun of because of their weight. Negative mental health, eating disorders, and poor diets can all stem from weight teasing. Adolescents can be experiencing a variety of stressors that we don’t know about! #beh353@beh353
Our new paper evaluating the interplay of weight based teasing and sociodemographic factors in adolescent weight bias internalization (WBI) has been published.
Summary: Teens experiencing weight teasing from both family & peers reported highest levels of WBI, those reporting no teasing exhibited the lowest levels
Patterns observed across sex, race/ethnicity, weight status, ect.
Family influences played a salient role, with teens reporting higher WBI if teased by family only compared to teasing from peers only.
Bottom line: Don't tease your kids about their weight. It's not funny or playful or cool.

@lilleest24@beh353 Hi Lillee, great article! Your article helps to provide parents with easy, accessible information on what types of foods their children need to eat to grow strong and healthy. I fully support this article! #beh353@beh353
I chose this article because it helps encourage children to eat a well-balanced diet and informs them on how they should structure their plates. This article is easy is read and is endorsed by Harvard (a reputable organization). #beh353@beh353

We need more advice like this for people who are trying to lose weight. Rather than focusing on dieting, which can help in the short term, exercising is crucial for losing weight. This advice helps to keep people motivated during their weight loss journey. #beh353@beh353
Research has shown that a light-intensity 2-5 minute walk after a meal significantly lowers blood glucose. While sitting after a meal allows blood glucose to rise unabated.
Just walking two to five minutes, had a significant impact.
Higher blood glucose means a higher likelihood of pre-diabetes, diabetes, weight gain and other negative metabolic issues over time.
PS - Standing after a meal has a small effect.
@yashira04189582@beh353 Hi Yashira, I couldn’t agree more with that! I believe that healthcare professionals should be supportive and accepting to individuals struggling with overweight or obesity. You never know what someone is going through! #beh353@beh353
After reading about how doctors have shorter appointments with fat patients and show less emotional rapport for them, it is my job as a future healthcare professional to never treat overweight or obese patients differently compared to everyone else. #beh353@beh353
@ounwin3@beh353 Hi Olivia! I was surprised by how much money goes towards obesity too! I think our jobs as healthcare professionals are to spread awareness on obesity and help with promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors to stop obesity from increasing in the US. #beh353@beh353
That is a very concerning fact! Obesity in US adolescents should be recognized, and preventative measures should be taken. I totally agree that US adolescents with obesity deserve lifelong treatment and more scientific research into obesity. #beh353@beh353
9 million US adolescents have obesity & deserve the scientific rigor & quality of care, including lifelong treatment, afforded to other chronic diseases. Thanks @JAMA_current@ehlJAMA for the opportunity to publish our piece on treating Adolescent Obesity https://t.co/kGmjIWllMA
I learned that new categories are being added to obesity trends among U.S. adults every couple of years. This is extremely concerning as more and more people are becoming obese. Moving forward, I will help promote healthy habits to lower obesity rates. #beh353@beh353
As someone who weight lifts, this nutritious meal is perfect for meal-prepping and will help me get adequate protein. This recipe provides convenience, while also being nutritional, and will help break the barrier to healthy eating. #beh353@beh353
🌟 TEX-MEX QUINOA BAKE 🌟 It’s a one-pan wonder with almost 20g of protein💪 and 10g of fiber✨—just add dry quinoa with the fixins into the casserole dish, and bake until warm and delicious!! 🤠 https://t.co/RYFHamJq9R
@AlexChheath@beh353 Hey Alex! I struggle with that same barrier as well. I find myself having no time to cook a healthy meal as I get busier and busier with schoolwork. This is an unfortunate barrier that many people face; however, we should find ways to combat this. #beh353@beh353
A tiny salad bowl at sweetgreens costed me close to $20. However, two cheese burgers, 6-piece nuggets, and a sugary soda at McDonald’s does not even reach $20. Why is that a more nutritious meal cost so much more than unhealthy “junk” food? #beh353@beh353
After watching your video about Vitamin C, I learned that it works as an antioxidant and speeds up chemical reactions. Vitamin C works by neutralizing naturally-occurring oxidative stress in our cells, and serves as a cofactor to aid enzymes in building collagen. #beh353@beh353
Why do we need #vitaminC? It's a powerful #antioxidant and essential for #collagensynthesis. Check out my latest video for a brief #history of the water-soluble nutrient and learn the best #cooking techniques to get adequate daily vitamin C. https://t.co/KPcSvprb5J
@jazlynn_pang@beh353 Hi Jazlynn! I also believe that Vitamin C is critical to our health and well-being. I feel that I don’t get enough Vitamin C in my diet, so I’ll take your suggestions and try to incorporate Vitamin C in my daily routine by taking either supplements or fruit. #beh353@beh353
