I need everyone’s professional advice: Which one of my students would you hire solely based on their resume?
(They had to create a resume for their favorite fictional character)

School superintendents and school principals, do yourself a BIG favor and go to your district’s/school’s website and pretend that you are a visitor and know nothing about your school/district. Surprise! After an hour, many of you will still be in the dark. Seriously!
& while we’re asking questions about reading, why aren’t we talking about how lack of explicit/systematic instruction in foundational reading is inequitable & against the law?
Too many educators incorrectly focus on students comprehending text that the student cannot accurately read. We MUST teach reading correctly FIRST. #structuredliteracy#gadyslexiaally#saydyslexia
‘For too long the perception society has of people with learning disabilities has been influenced by stigma. Ableism has shaped society in ways that are exclusionary but that can change.’ - NCLD’s Young Adult Leader, Kayla, in our new blog.

Home from an evening presenting our school's Science of Reading approach to parents. I gave parents 'takeaways' that they can do at home with their child.

Nashville: This week you will hear talk about “Balanced” literacy & how well it works. Sure, it can teach about 35% of kids to read. The other 60% will never learn to read without explicit, systematic phonics. It is beyond time to teach ALL our children to read. #HOWmatters
Five (Debunked) Whole Language Principles Still in Use
1: Learning to read is natural like learning to speak.
2: Meaning comes first.
3. Don't teach handwriting explicitly.
4. There is no dyslexia.
5. There shouldn't be spelling/ lesson sequences. https://t.co/IzITJYuRW7
💯 Note: If your district uses Balanced Literacy, odds are they are “teaching” your child to read by telling her to look away from the word and find something else to figure it out. Instead, lets actually teach children to read by explicitly showing them how to decode words.
@danfrench understands the science of reading. That knowledge needs 2B shared with R #VT school districts. R reading scores prove that the status quo is not effective in improving reading outcomes. It’s time 2change R practices 2align with the science. @rexa_mtsd@VTEducation
I highly recommend this book. Might be especially useful for Reading Recovery teachers and others who have been taught cueing in F&P and Calkins/Units of Study. https://t.co/08ZttSMZr0 Thread. 1/13
