FAQ: Is there anything you learned in 4 years of college that actually applies to your current job?
Answer: Not much, but yes. Here's one thing: I had 1 professor promise that if you ever showed a number in a presentation and didn't give context, he'd fail you on the spot (1/4)
@nixie_guy HWinfo is good for monitoring (and logging) basically any value that is output from a sensor (or ADC) on your PC, with a lot more features that I won't get into right now. You can also log memory errors (including VRAM ones!)
Downside: Windows
@_MG_@matir@PCBWayOfficial Oh my....
That does look terrible. I guess the appeal is in their parts library, where you can approximate a BOM pretty well.
Even then, with PCB's like that I guess it's not worth it even for prototypes.
@_MG_@matir@PCBWayOfficial Best part is I'm not even doing assembly with them. But yeah, membership levels apparenly do matter a lot.
That being said, I like Pcbway. However, many of my contacts use JLC, did you have any experience with them? How do they compare?
@_MG_@matir@PCBWayOfficial I didn't get the boards yet, but that was the point where I just accepted rough sides as a given. The funny part is, they had troubles after that exactly with the part that I told them to use for panelising. So now I also have V-cut? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Don't mind it anymore tho.
@_MG_@matir@PCBWayOfficial Yep, I guess that there is a place for both. I didn't have requirements that complex, It's just that I wanted a smooth side exactly where they put tabs. I even specified it in the gerbers, besides the load of pictures and arrows. In the end I settled on finishing them by hand 😂
@_MG_@matir@PCBWayOfficial And they panelised it ok? I had a week's worth of back and forth with them for a panel, and it's still not how I really wanted it. After last week I'll always make my own panel.
@storborg If I could retweet this more than once, I would.
Software development just waits for hardware to get faster/better, just to run some animations and a few webpages. Next thing you know, 6GB of RAM is standard on a phone.
Why are there so many standards and regulations for hardware power efficiency, but none for software? HW engineers bend over backwards to scrape out 3% extra efficiency, but it’s ok to use a payment platform that uses more power to transfer $0.02 than to run a fridge for a day?
@_MG_ Now I don't know the board layout or schematic, but I once had a batch of PCB's with ceramic resonators instead of crystals. Found out the hard way that they're sensitive to reflow temperatures. Some would be good and some just wouldn't flash.
@_MG_ Is it something dumb like really small bits of bag getting stuck in the USB connector? But I really think we need more info to debug this online ;)
Making #ESP32 game consoles again. This one is a simple shield for the @adafruit#Huzzah32 . It provides two SNES connectors, an SD card slot and RCA connectors for audio/video color PAL. Have fun! https://t.co/DgUllPPegP
