Consistently, one of my first pieces of feedback I give to seed founders after we invest
Is that they are under-budgeting/prioritizing the quality of their office
You need to be building a cult and a culture; that's hard to do under fluorescent lights without some sunshine
More and more, I have lost conviction that “minimum viable products” make sense for product development.
It makes no sense to release a product with the core flow and then dismiss its viability after the aggregate data says people aren’t using it.
Instead, founders should have a fundamental belief about what people want—and they should keep iterating until that value is correctly surfaced.
In practice, this means you should keep a steady flow of new users as you add components to the product, seeing if it solves a core part of the activation and signup loop.
The only part that could possibly be “half-baked” is those individual components. But even those need sufficient quality so there are no confounding factors that distort the signal.
Still buzzing from last Friday's edition of the Tech Founders Club lunch @ Lisbon. 🔥
Knowing how precious time is, I'm blown away by the level and quality of the Founders that we've managed to sit down together for ~3 to 5 hours.
The magnitude of talent, wisdom and ambition...it's just inspiring. ⭐
It's particularly incredible how open and vulnerable these conversations are, even though before the lunch starts, people don't really know each other!
I've been saying it and I'll say it again: this new generation of Portuguese entrepeneurs is the real deal. 🇵🇹 It may take some time to show, but it will. It's just a matter of time.
I'm just grateful for the previlege of being part of this. 🙏
Idle speculation:
- Siri and Safari search replaced with local LLM that runs on your next next gen iPhone
- iLLM 😂 obv it won’t be called that
- iLLM answers 80% of what you ask, the rest it farms out to mega Apple-hosted LLM
- Apple builds this on an open source LLM of course - previously wouldn’t have bothered to build the infra to compete on search, but they can compete in the new paradigm
- Apple makes some new App Store rules to ban rival browsers on iOS (justification: privacy, security, etc)
- they also remove ads fully in all LLM responses for a cleaner UX, changing user expectations while also wrecking competitor business models
In this theory, trad search engines still exist. If an iLLM really really cant answer the customer query then it finally redirects to trad search but begrudgingly so
There's a reason why SaaS funding is down to a 5-year low
VCs are finally waking up to the fact that zero marginal costs in the short term means zero margin in the long term
Every AI healthcare pitch I’m receiving these days:
Our tool completely automates Y process ($40b annual spend).
You do all the work. Modify EHR, change workflow, prepare the data and give it to us. We then make one Open AI call and charge you half of what you spend on Y.
Unless you’re at a serious inflection point in the company, I find it’s better to be pickier about each hire than it is hire too many people. Often it only takes a small number of people to drive a trajectory changing moment. Tiny teams move extremely fast.
The real Brussels effect:
1. Europe passes asinine tech regulations.
2. Tech giants run rings around them.
3. Life gets even harder for startups.
4. Europe falls even further behind in tech.
