The LTTE acted as any vanguard movement does when facing repression. @kcroninfurman and I wrote about the LTTE’s consolidation of power in the 80s. The paper goes into some detail about how the other groups didn’t practice what they preached https://t.co/NvngKH6BTW
@alisabrypc Chatgpt can you translate?
"Why can't you big , bad Western media let us, a small country, have our flaws like Genocide ? It hurts our feelings when you talk about killings ". @MarioArul
Couldn't be more wrong! Trust is earned and not simply given. what has NPP done to earn the trust so far? What a simple take that lacks nuanced understanding of Tamil electoral politics!
🚨 UPDATE - Sri Lanka’s NPP secures record ‘super majority’ in parliament, but still less than 50% in the Tamil homeland
The NPP secured more than 50% of votes in every district on the island - except in the North-East and Nuwara Eliya.

@ArunAnnow Sinhala liberals would rather maintain their facade than to denounce their own, genocidal, settler, occupying state. #Srilankan state is helped by #Israel in the planning and execution of the settler mindset. And Israel is now re enacting the playbook of the 2009
Lol last thing on this - compare the 2009 byline with the 2024 byline. They'd have never imagined that 15 years on, this is how they'd have to identify in order to claim legitimacy.
Ragavan and his lot justified the Tamil genocide. Their hatred for the LTTE means they contort themselves to undermine the Tamil struggle. They end up making the same arguments against the Tamil resistance that others make against the Palestinian resistance.
Sri Lanka’s presidential elections since the Mullivaikkal genocide - mapped out.

Introducing our latest report, Justice for Genocide: Sri Lanka’s Responsibility for Genocide against the Tamil People in 2009, which undertakes the most comprehensive evidentiary and legal analysis to date of the Sri Lankan government and military’s conduct as genocidal acts that were committed with genocidal intent. It concludes Sri Lanka is responsible for genocide against the Tamil people from January through May 18, 2009.

A #Tamil , prosperous diaspora, despite being chased away, can help in many aspects: capitol inflow, new sectors, skill development. But can't in earnest unless there is radical political reform which #Srilanka will never do.
Genocide and debt servicing will haunt #srilankadaily for a looong time. The economists & IMF, refusing to link the two have their heads in the sand. Country borrowed to commit Genocide. Still unsustainable defense spending. No revenue sources w/ growth potential except tourism.
And with deals already done with the Paris Club/ India, China Exim and a deal nearly done with the bonds (pending evaluation of the latest macro linked structure) it would be hard to start over ... but still hugely interesting

@MarioArul A false dichotomy from a failing politician. It was obvious TNA policies would lead to Tamil voter apathy over time. Which is what Srilankan state wanted all along. Political imagination and expression of Tamils expanding is healthy. Neither extreme nor weak.
@Karavaibalu@HarimPeiris Much worse to imply that Sinhala leaders don't do anything because #Tamils try new things. The complete opposite interpretation of the causation.
@Karavaibalu@HarimPeiris Criticize #Tamil people for trying different approaches and then simultaneously lament about Sinhala leaders never doing anything. This cognitive dissonance of many has been a bigger problem: Centered on imaginary Sinhala benevolence.
@JohnsonThought1 India s early support was primarily to coerce the Srilankan government into its orbit: Away from the west. LTTE was willing to fight to the end for statehood and even took on India.
