Congratulations to everyone for reaching the end of Day 3 at #COP28. Averaging 25,000 steps daily, coupled with smart shoes, has led to blisters, but it's all worth it to be part of this crucial event and to ensure nations uphold their commitments. #sheffield#engineering
🌍 COP28 Snapshot – Day 3 - Fast Tracking the Energy Transition
🎉 Global Decarbonization Accelerator announced, prioritizing decarbonization across energy producing and heavy-emitting sectors
🤝 50 Oil & Gas companies committed to eliminating methane by 2030 and fully decarbonizing by 2050
🌱 118 countries pledged to TRIPLE global renewables capacity and DOUBLE energy efficiency by 2030
#COP28 #ClimateAction
Some 3.5 billion people – nearly half of humanity – live in areas highly vulnerable to the #ClimateCrisis.
Leaders at #COP28 must take concrete steps to accelerate climate adaptation and address loss and damage through major new investments.
The first group of @sheffielduni COP28 delegates is reporting from the conference. We are proud of our Grantham Scholars who are a part of the group and we are happy to be supporting them in attending this potentially pivotal event. 🌍

📢 #COP28 officially started today - and despite the fact that a big oil producer is presiding over the conference, the global community is still hopeful that this year's conference will deliver meaningful decisions. 🌍 We have a number of delegates attending so watch this space!
SMASH delegates have arrived in Bangkok for ICCC 2023. We had such a lovely evening at the pre-Congress dinner and exploring the local culture. Looking forward to the proceedings starting today! #ICCC23
Our research team @SmashUoS in @CBESheffield now has a dedicated Twitter page - give us a follow to keep up with what we've been doing! Run by our very own @AvaCements, we're aiming to use it to feature research and other activities that our group gets up to 🥳🌍🌲
We build the equivalent of Paris each week, with construction accounting for almost 40% of emissions!PhD students @efcliff, Kyle O'Donoghue & Madeline Rihner have organised this free event with experts from industry & academia to explore how we change this:https://t.co/lfAtnVYEkc
Check out the @FestOfDebate event that myself and a few fellow @granthamcsf scholars have organised on #GreenInfrastrcture, with speakers from both academia and industry.

Our 3rd event is:
🏗️Green Infrastructure: How can we build a sustainable future?
💚Construction creates 40% of global carbon emissions - to go #NetZero means we need a 50% cut by 2030. Can we do it?
📅May 16 14:00 – 15:30 BST online

📢It's @FestOfDebate time!
💚Starting May 2nd, we're organising online events on cities, farming, water and greenspaces.
📅In this thread we'll give details, or you can find out more and get tix in the link⬇️

It was great to get together for our away day, where we shared our expertise & values! It was clear we're all on the same mission to reduce the environmental impact of cement & concrete & find real-world solutions. Thanks to our facilitator @sandrinesoubes & hosts @Whirlowbrook
HNY!Now's the time where resolutions are made (& broken!) Instead of giving anything up our NY goal is to build our network & connect with more amazing people in cement science! If you're wanting to do the same this article from @efcliff has some great tips:https://t.co/yWOosKVppK
As Christmas approaches we want to thank everyone who has been part of & supported @CementsSheff - we share a mission with many to make materials that are better for the planet and us all & it is wonderful that so many people are working together to make this happen!
