Working at Smithsonian Marine Station on coral diseases, BS Marine Bio Eckerd College 19', most commonly found pipetting in lab or exploring in the ocean 🐠🔬
Super exciting, Smithsonian marine station has a new video up my coworker and I got to take part in. Watch us bust some myths about corals!

Here's the digital version of the public lecture I was going to give on some of the work we have been doing on #coralprobiotics to treat #SCTLD. @PolypProtectors
Before and after I see my quarantine snacks...While the rest of our lab is working from home, our coral husbandry team takes turns going into the lab to feed our corals. @TessaVekich fed the corals this morning and took this shot of a C. nat coral with its mouths wide open.
CHAMP lab happy fact!
Our brain coral produces the protein GFP that fluoresces when exposed to UV light! GFP is invaluable to molecular biology and was discovered in the jellyfish Aequorea victoria, which are cnidarians like corals.
