I’m sorry - wasn’t your mom on the TUHSD Board as they constricted and then finally blocked summer access to the Tam High (public) pool to children from Marin City? The exact intersection of “Disparate Impact Law” and “Privatization of Public Entities” creating “Play Inequity”?
Challenge for fellow white people 2K19: instead of speculating with other white people in political debates about “how you’d feel if you were [Black | undocumented]” actually go listen and get involved with organizing for these communities.
@MBridegam Definitely. Saw patients given 5150s merely for challenging authority. But most older nurses-who started careers when pay was low, had a genuine desire to care for patients. And I knew great young nurses, too. But higher salaries sometimes had paradoxical effects on recruitment.
@MBridegam Now that I work for lawyers, I realize that each one of those victims could have sued UCSF. But then what? Where would they go after that? And it’s a very damaging process to be a whistleblower.
@MBridegam Yeah, you’re right. I hear this a lot from office workers - that people sleeping or begging on the street are somehow involved in some kind of “scam.”
That’s gotta be the most labor and pain-intensive “scam” on earth.
@MBridegam I gave him the exact same (excellent) advice the attending physician had given me regarding the situation the year before: “You know if you file this complaint HERE, you’re history.”
The nurse followed advice, transferred w/o complaint, kept his career. /4
@MBridegam I got a phone call about a year after I left from a young, very popular, very good nurse, who was male. The bully nurses had turned their ire on him (they looked for unaffiliated targets) and he wanted advice on how to file a complaint. /3
So, 13.9% of US households owned stocks directly in 2016. 52% had retirement accounts. If it were possible to vote against Wall Street and the financialization of the economy, voting against the interests of those 13.9% wouldn't be so controversial. Pensions shouldn't be in stock
Center for American Progress, the most prominent Democratic think tank in D.C., has been criticized for accepting significant funding from the UAE, one of the Gulf countries leading the war on Yemen. The UAE gave CAP between $500,000 to $999,000 in 2017. https://t.co/Je1tC7JPbk
While Trump talks about a "booming economy," the reality for working families is:
-Real wages for average workers are lower than in 1973
-80% live paycheck to paycheck
-Half of older Americans have no retirement savings
New Year’s Resolution: Create an economy that works for all.
It has been over four years and Flint still doesn’t have clean drinking water.
There are almost 2,000 other water systems across this country with unacceptable levels of lead.
It’s outrageous that we can’t guarantee clean water to every American.
“We don’t imprison the poor in the US for the so-called crime of poverty.” - Larry Krasner. #WinningJustice is electing progressive DA's who will fight for Black & Brown folks by ending systems like money bail that disproportionately harm us. https://t.co/XmD3eYBb8w #COCIn2018
