In the midst of a catastrophic war and escalating repression in Iran, the Trump Administration is halting immigration processing and legal status pathways for Iranian nationals, including students and professionals already in the United States.

Because visa processing and immigration benefit applications are now frozen, many Iranians studying and working here could lose their legal status and be forced to return to a country where they may face serious danger.

I’m working on a series of actions to demand immediate protections for Iranians in the U.S., including safeguards for students and others whose lives would be at risk in Iran.

I started my postdoc research here as an Iranian physician. Iranian scholars, students, researchers and physicians all came here legally and after being vetted. We are working hard not only for our own personal future but also to positively contribute in America’s research and industry. Since I came here, I always felt welcomed and I am very happy that I could explain the reel feelings of Iranians about USA to my American friends. Before this evil regime starts to run our beautiful country we had a very nice relationship with America. I hope we can rebuild that connection and also stay here and show the world that American dream is real. @SecMullinDHS please consider holding the immigration pause for Iranians.

Mr. @SecMullinDHS, as you step into your new position I ask you to provide particular consideration to the status of Iranian students and professionals in the United States who may be at risk of immigration complications due to Presidential Proclamations 10949 and 10998. Many of these individuals fled the Islamic Republic’s because they believe in freedom, democracy, and the values this country stands for. They are also contributing to the United States every day.

They arrived in this country legally, followed the rules, respect this country and its system of law and order and are among the most dedicated and accomplished contributors to American society. I ask that you and your department consider these factors, plus the personal and political risk many of these young people would face if sent back to the criminal regime in Iran.

America’s concerns for its national security and the threat posed by the Islamic regime to the homeland are entirely justified. To that end, my office stands ready to provide you and your colleagues with regime operatives, propaganda agents, and influence networks for investigation and removal from the United States.

A recent USCIS policy memorandum has paused certain immigration benefits for individuals from 39 countries, including Iran. This pause affects categories such as OPT and OPT extensions, H-1B and H-1B extensions, Adjustment of Status (green card), and Employment Authorization Documents (EAD).
Many Iranian scholars, researchers, engineers, and other professionals currently in the United States came here legally after undergoing rigorous background checks, extensive vetting, and formal visa interviews. They have maintained lawful status and have contributed meaningfully to American universities, research institutions, businesses, and the broader U.S. economy.
I respectfully urge USCIS to reconsider and lift the hold on academic- and employment-based categories such as NIW-EB2, EB-1, H-1B, and OPT for Iranian nationals who have complied fully with U.S. laws and whose safety could be at risk if forced to return under current conditions.
