If you have a friend who's a business owner and they use your services or buy your products, one of the best things you can do for them is to align with the structures and systems they've put in place.
Just because you have access to them doesn't mean you should bypass those systems. Especially as the business grows, respect their professional space. If there are people within the business designated to handle your transaction, go through them. Don't expect that you'll continue to deal with them directly on every professional matter.
I stopped patronising two of my friends' businesses many years back because they simply wouldn't work with my team. No, I can't be involved in every single transaction that happens in the business.
I never have a problem working with my friends' teams. In fact, I prefer it. Yes, you can use that access for exceptional situations, but don't make it the default. Allow them to grow.
They're not being proud. They're being efficient, building systems, and creating businesses that can scale.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both.
Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.
Yesterday, I had an interesting conversation with a very successful friend who runs her own fund. She is a gorgeous Nigerian in her early 40s, and she told me that she had given up on marriage because she sees it as an oppressive institution. I decided to probe further to learn.
@HeIsJayjam They can brazenly do anything to Nigerians anywhere in the world because they know no useless government is coming to help! Nigeria has failed everyone. This is the worst time to have useless leaders!
Incase you don't realize how scary it is to be a woman in Nigeria, Lemme explain my personal experience.
Last week, I had to walk through a road to get to my bustop, there were tours (Men) hanging around there.
In broad day light ooo.
I was walking, one touched me, I turned...
My brother why are you shocked as a person who lives in Nigeria? Is pedophilia not everywhere in Nigeria, across regions and religion? Was a popular pedophile who was just released from jail (one of the few who ever go to jail) not boldly on a podcast in Lagos recently? Are men in northern Nigeria not fighting for their rights to marry children under the guise of religion? Is there a month that passes in Nigeria without news of a man or pastor or neighbour or family member raping a child? Does every university and secondary school not have predators hunting for young girls? What of the young men doing NYSC teaching kids?
I can never forget being in Oyo and volunteering to teach English in a secondary school in Iseyin where I discovered that some of the male teachers were having sex with their 13-15 year old students. I overheard a teacher saying that he had paid to get one of the students abortions a few times and that she was a slut. A child.
Unfortunately (and this bothered me) there was nothing I could do legally, as I did not see any of the acts myself. I merely overheard the men who were committing the acts talking and laughing about it.
So yeah, that is what is happening. Muscle memory from living in a country where you can safely be a pedophile.
🚨THIS IS HEARTBREAKING🚨
GANG-RAPE VICTIM, 25, TO DIE BY EUTHANASIA TODAY AFTER COURTS OVERRULE FATHER’S DESPERATE BID TO SAVE HER!
Noelia Castillo was brutally gang-raped in 2022 by her ex-boyfriend and three other men – then jumped from a fifth-floor building in a suicide bid that left her paraplegic from the waist down, in constant unbearable neuropathic pain, incontinent and wheelchair-bound.
She begged for assisted dying under Spain’s law; father fought it all the way to the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights, claiming mental health issues.
Every appeal rejected. She dies TODAY at her Catalan care home.
“I just want to stop suffering,” she said. A young life destroyed.
I did my cable TV subscription earlier this month and this cable TV gave me 27 days instead of 30 days. I dug out their terms and conditions and saw that a monthly subscription cycle is actually 30 days. There's nothing that states that it is different for February.
I engaged my colleague to write them a demand letter, asking them to return my 3 days or risk a lawsuit. They didn't reply.
Earlier today, he came to me to review the originating process against them and to gather further facts. In the process, we checked the App and realised that they had returned my 3 days in the middle of the night.
You can continue to leave people and institutions to God when they violate your right or cheat you. You can keep indulging corruption by rationalising it with "Just 3 days?", "You're bigger than this" and other silly considerations, but I won't.
If people love with the assumption that they can get away with anything, we are all in trouble.
As long as there are laws in this land, I shall enforce all my rights to the letter. Individuals and institutions will either not breach my right or I'll teach them not to, in a very hard and costly way.
The best thing happened to me this morning, and I thought to share it with you all.
I opened my WhatsApp to see that my assistant had sent me my task list, and at the bottom, she added a link.
The message that accompanied the link was “For when your brain won’t shut up.”
I was curious at this point, so I clicked the link and it led me to a Spotify playlist with some of the most relaxing songs ever.
And it’s genuinely the nicest thing an employee has ever done for me.
The first thing she did when I hired her newly, was add 20 minutes breaks between my meetings, so I’d always have the time to catch my breath.
Now, I believe that being thoughtful is one of the most defining skills of a good assistant, and I don’t see myself settling for anything less ever.
I hope she doesn’t get surprised when I start inventing new bonuses and sending gifts to her doorstep.
My week is off to a really great start. How about you?
Prior to his death, Eric Dane sat for an interview with the understanding that it would only be shared with the world after he passed.
In that conversation, he reflected on his battle with ALS, his struggles with addiction, and his marriage to Rebecca Gayheart: “I will never, by the time anybody sees this, have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca.”
Famous Last Words is now on Netflix.
It is best to say the things you want to say to those who matter now. Some things hurt to say out loud. Say them anyway. There will be the tightening of jaws and tears held back. Say them anyway.
We don't get a round 2 in this life. Maybe in the next. I cannot count on that.
If someone matters then let them know it. The storm may pass but the scars from enduring it may linger for a lifetime. That is a heavy price to pay.
