@ellanimall @CarolynGorman_ @AbigailShrier I have never been able to find a play therapy study outperforming a comparison group controlling for attention and expectations when treating a mental health condition. Usually just stuff like improved emotion language or parent report of relationship compared to nothing.

@FCisnotScience I agree completely that the technique is inherently diminishing of autonomy if not even more harmful than that. Also, that the burden of proof SHOULD be on proponents.

I guess I’m just trying to think about how to convince people. Lesser of evils. Protections would important.

@berutei @FCisnotScience I know, it’s very frustrating, but I don’t think “scientific consensus” is enough to use force to compel people to stop doing their religious beliefs even when I agree their beliefs are a crime against humanity.

@GadSaad Serious question: isn’t “empathy” being used wrong in your book title? That is, do you believe the people accused of sucidal empathy actually have insight into the alleged murderous feelings of other’d folks? Wouldn’t empathy scare the westerners or whoever into isolationism?

@berutei @FCisnotComm @FCisnotScience Idea: get independent users of legitimate nonverbal assistive tech to get “spellered” and then interview them about experiences after. I know it’ll have to be rudimentary when legitimate. Has this been tried?
