We are happy to share our new commentary on why using language inclusively for transgender people is perfectly appropriate biologically, socially, and scientifically.
Here is a 🧵 on this new commentary by @AndyPerfors, @celestekidd, and myself.

@mixedlinguist I saw your replies and was annoyed at how they dismissed you and said you had nothing to contribute. I have a kid and while I agree that as a parent the perspective is v. different and you pick your battles, it’s not like you were being totally unreasonable!
@lingerie_addict If I check my bag, I carry essentials with me on the plane in case of delay or lost luggage. Anything I can’t replace at the destination (medications, contacts) plus stuff to tide me over until luggage arrives or I can shop (toothbrush, a change of clothes).
@GDNPearson@SamAsIAm Yep! His name was Krieger. I also worked in the park at the time and remember people joking about paying for projects with “Krieger money”. https://t.co/IA1nEPek7e
@LukeGessler Yes, (a) is fine, (b) is not. From NYC area and don’t have positive anymore in my dialect. I’m certain I’ve said things like (a) before. I agree with the other comment that “didn’t know” is probably what’s licensing anymore here…
@lingerie_addict Honestly don’t really use hand sanitizer bc of COVID… but for other nasty stuff that is spread by touch. Like ppl who don’t wash their hands with soap after the toilet.
@DrMBurnett @DeonTBenton I do this too! I don’t track changes but use the comments for myself a lot. Makes it easy to find places that I want to revisit and remind myself why.
@DeonTBenton Ah, that makes sense! Yes I usually try it while I’m actually at work using Stata. I don’t work after 5pm anymore these days (except on papers I submitted before I finished my postdoc!).
Has anyone gone from working in R to Stata and have some good resources on making that transition? Eg “if you did x in R you do it like this in Stata”? My new workplace uses Stata and R is just not an option long-term so I gotta learn Stata!
