This is what’s coming.
Rapidly aging population.
Think about what this means for patients suffering from heart failure and the burning out of teams caring for them.
And 1 out of every 4 cardiologists is within retirement age range.
20% of nurses have left the work force.
One of my patients (who labels himself a #PriorAuthSurvivor) diagrammed the unnecessary complexity of trying to get his medication approved on time 👇
Rinse & repeat and this is a cyclic nightmare that has nothing to do with chemo but rather the bureaucracy of US healthcare
When Einthoven introduced the ECG to the world, he uniquely labeled its parts PQRST, inspired by mathematicians who used Ps & Qs in coordinates. Yet, he believed there was more to find, so he started in the alphabet's middle, leaving room for new discoveries on both sides.

I was involved in a pretty severe accident heading home this afternoon and want to use this opportunity to emphasize the importance of seatbelt use.
The driver who hit me head to head was not wearing a seatbelt, I was. The hit we both took was technically equal. He lost consciousness after hitting his head and losing blood- had to be taken by an ambulance. I just have some hip pain from the seatbelt contact point.
Seatbelts save lives, seatbelts are public health.
Thank you to the Cleveland police, fire department, and EMS who were here expeditiously.

My advice:
Learn to say:
“Thank you.”
“I love you.”
“I need help.”
“I’m sorry.”
Stay humble. Be kind. Have mercy.
Stand for justice.
And make it home for dinner.
We're seeing an influx of consumer wearables devices in cardiology clinics, with CV clinicians asked to interpret and integrate these data into medical assessments. We've written a review to help demystify this complex subject.

At this time in the academic year, I reflect on the fantastic people in our residency program. At noon conference today, we celebrated some incredible teaching faculty and residents & fellows who have impacted our program. Congratulations to all winners and nominees! 👏👏👏
The day has finally arrived!
I am thrilled to announce the release of my new book, 'Future Care.'
Crazy to see it listed as a #1 Amazon new release in ‘hospital administration’ and ‘preventive medicine.’

Me: I was at a conference.
Uber driver: (driving to the airport) Oh, I know. If you're leaving Vegas on Friday, something went very wrong, or you were at a conference.
Here’s the dirty secret of emergency medicine:
We don’t have to do prior auth. Like ever. We just order what the patient needs, and the patient gets it done in the ED.
But here’s why we care about prior auth anyways:
B/c not a shift goes by where a patient doesn’t land in the ER as a last resort when #priorauth denied or delayed them the outpatient care they needed.
At the Mass General Transplant Center best-in-class clinical care is paramount. Read about the team’s innovative solution for a Jehovah’s Witness #hearttransplant patient
