As the number of homeless people grows, their crises are increasingly brought into public view. This can breed contempt. And contempt can turn into violence. https://t.co/99ZS45OSae
Only one of these looks like Main Street in Bothell - for which we have strict preservation rules.
Meanwhile parking requirements mean the part of town we fight to preserve is functionally illegal to build anywhere else in town.
If it's worth preserving, it's worth building
@senategabe @brianschatz Agreed that Dems have plenty to work with and I really hope they get it together. Thoughts on this?: What if an ad was just a black screen, white font transcript of (take your pick) Trump’s speech snippets, e.g. https://t.co/2ewZyeXIX9 would that be effective.
Trump: "They want you to say what they want you, what they want to have you say. And we're not gonna let that happen. You're going to say as you want & you're going to believe & you're going to believe in God. You're gonna believe in God because God is here & God is watching."
Gaza: As displacement continues, hunger reaches unprecedented levels & needs soar, UN is redoubling efforts to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
Yet, relief operations keep facing major challenges amid intensified hostilities.

Saying the quiet part out loud:
“It's a win-win, from an oil business point of view. Oxy can profit off selling oil, while simultaneously profiting off capturing emissions.”

Common sense. In addition to the parking rates… “Tesla’s 6,800lb (3,080kg) Cybertruck probably won’t be coming to Europe at all, because at that weight, it requires a trucking license”.
“The mayor of Paris, @Anne_Hidalgo, has now proposed tripling parking rates for SUVs in central Paris to €18 an hour, and €12/hour for the rest of the city. The measure…would affect roughly 10% of the cars in the city.”
Cybertruck isn’t allowed at all.

There's lots of announcements and news coming out of #COP28. I'm here to rank them for you from a climate scientist's perspective, using 🌴 for the wins and 🤦♀️ for the facepalms.
Did I miss something? Let me know and I'll add it to this list! #ClimateAction#COP28FromHome 🧵
@DerekMYoung Seems worth exploring. Otherwise maybe it’s just the make-it-inconvenient tactic- narrow streets, more expensive parking for larger vehicles, etc. Whatever it takes to slow down the arms race of enormous vehicles.
Lancaster, CA transformed its downtown in just 8 months by redesigning it's main street from a mini-highway to a tree-lined boulevard.
For the cost of just $11.5M, the project has generated $273M in economic output since 2010, creating 800 jobs, and nearly doubling tax revenue!
@DavidZipper@rebeccajtiffany Have any legislators even tried to restrict these types of vehicles? At the very least a special licenses should be required for vehicles that are this heavy/high.
@DerekMYoung Is it really too late? Seems like legislators could do something to restrict these (and other massive vehicles) for the sake of pedestrian safety. People who drive semi trucks need special licenses. Why not for these too?
