The Army announced they’re awarding $2.2 billion to five companies to build nuclear microreactors at different Army sites.
This matters because it’s hard for new nuclear companies to find their first customers. Having the first few orders locked in creates a pathway to achieving scale!
Congratulations to all the companies involved and to @Waksman84 for putting this together.
BREAKING: The first fully operational commercial nuclear microreactor will be deployed at a U.S. Army installation in 2028.
To achieve this, the Army has awarded a combined $2.2 Billion to five competing commercial companies.
@AFergusonFTC Thanks for the kind words and well wishes, Andrew. Just trying to keep up with the generational run you’re having at the FTC! You’ve been a tremendous friend and colleague, and I look forward to cheering you on from outside the Administration!
Thanks Andrew!! Just trying to keep up with the generational run you’re having at the FTC.
Working with Austin and the many others who made the nuclear effort a success will be one of my fondest memories.
It has been so much fun working together, and I’m so glad we’ve become friends!
Randy brought intellectual rigor but also a great sense of humor to the classroom and to faculty workshops. It was so much fun getting to know him as a student and a colleague and he will be sorely missed.
As a longtime @PirateWires reader, this was fun to wake up to. Yes, we can still just do things, like reindustrialization and energy dominance. Thanks for the shout out on NLICs.
Vanderbilt today published "The University and Its Purpose: A Declaration of First Principles."
Adopted by Vanderbilt’s Board of Trust, the declaration reaffirms the enduring commitments that define and sustain America’s great research universities.

The proposed Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campuses have the potential to:
☑️Attract ~$50 billion in capital investment
☑️Generate ~$10 billion in state and local tax revenue
☑️Create ~25,000 jobs with establishment of a campus
The President’s May 2025 executive orders on nuclear energy directed the creation of a comprehensive strategy for a seemingly intractable problem - nuclear waste reprocessing, recycling and disposal. Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campuses will answer that call, supporting domestic reindustrialization, reducing our reliance on foreign fuel, and creating thousands of jobs. Fantastic work by @ENERGY and @OverReactor1776!
It was a team effort. Couldn’t have done it without an extraordinary group of people who worked tirelessly to make the orders a reality, like @OverReactor1776.
