This was so annoying for me too. The expensive model kept checking on subagents and wasting tokens, so I told it to wait for them to wake it up, then added a hook to make sure it goes back to the right kind of wait after I interrupt it with a message. 🧵

Small trick I’ve been doing on my personal plan to make multi agent use more efficient with Astra.

Have astra plan some work, and then dispatch it to another thread with the model of your choice. Tell it to end its turn after doing so and prompt the other thread to message it only when the work is complete.

This avoids polling and the other thread can wake the originating thread on its own to continue work.

2/ That worked, but then I noticed another problem. If I sent a message while it was waiting, it would answer me and sometimes forget to go back to the right kind of wait that subagents can wake it up. So I added an instruction to always resume that wait after replying to me

A Positive Version of this is similar to the vision a friend @enisberkc had mentioned to me in 2019. An internet of agents, interacting with each other (at the time we were thinking more along the lines of exposed neural networks).

It's a powerful idea.
