When this car came out I was running a couple BMW-related channels, and was never allowed to really rib them about it. But ten years on, I appreciate that they can't truly bury it, because as you might have guessed, it's the longest name of any production vehicle in history.

@AlexEdgerton Exactly, and extra fast charging also negatively impact energy density. BYD's 1000kw-capable 123kwh LFP is ~25%/200kg heavier than an American 400kW-capable 123kWh NMC pack.
Too many people assume that performance is a breakthrough instead of a trade-off.

That battery is 25% heavier than a 400kW-capable battery of the same capacity, and that RWD Denza has less range than a car with more space despite having more 46% battery. This does not signal advancement at all.

Homecharging makes charging speed irrelevant, and without homecharging, needing to charge twice as frequently is not elegant nor convenient at all.

@bilboofshire@itskyleconner Exactly. On a 500mi trip, no matter how fast a short-range EV charges, a 500mi EV beats it with: time charging = 0, time detouring to chargers = 0, time worrying = 0. Zero is fundamentally faster than any charging speed will ever be. The superiority is greater than most realize.
@CryptoSDMark BYD is marketing trade-offs as “advancements.” Their 123kWh pack is ~200kg heavier than Gravity’s, and due to poor efficiency, Gravity charges 80–600km on 400kW 1 minute faster than the BYD Tang L (which has less interior space) charging on 1000kW.
