Brilliant to hear @patrickharvie mention Uplift's recent polling at #FMQs which found that 65% of Scottish business leaders support the transition away from fossil fuels and an end to oil and gas licencing🙏
Business leaders across the UK back an end to new oil and gas licensing, recognising that the transition away from fossil fuels is good for the economy and their businesses, good for the climate and in the public interest. 🆕👇
More proof that the rhetoric reflected in some parts of the press/parliament is out of step with public sentiment:
This survey of UK business leaders shows strong backing for the transition away from oil & gas and an end to new oil & gas licensing:

Rosebank oil field alone would produce over 200 million tonnes of CO2, more than the 700 million people in the world’s poorest countries do in a year.
Delighted to meet with @tessakhan and @IRMercer from Uplift today as they challenge the Rosebank and Jackdaw oil fields in court
As the courts hear an application to overturn the license for the Rosebank oil field, it’s time to just say no to fossil fuels. My latest blog https://t.co/62ry90ZB3G

Great to speak about the past, present and future of North Sea oil and opportunities for a fairer and greener economy for #StopRosebank at Edinburgh University. Thanks to @tessakhan, @TommySheppard, @laurensunfl0wer for sharing their insights and @frankieboyle for chairing!
Holding the line on 1.5C is not an aspirational target - it’s a scientific imperative. The #Rosebank oil field is not compatible with the 1.5C limit, international climate obligations, or indeed a liveable future.
This month, legal cases against Rosebank will be heard in the Scottish Courts - a big opportunity to accelerate the transition away from oil and gas.
Should the case be successful, the UK Government will have the opportunity to remake the decision. This is a government that was elected on a mandate to lead the transition to renewable energy - creating jobs, lowering bills, boosting the economy and ensuring a livable future. We must support them in that endeavour.

NEW: Oil & gas firms have been decrying a possible hike in the windfall tax in the Budget for months, with some threatening to pull investment & cut jobs.
But new research reveals just how generous the UK’s current tax regime has been for O&G companies

Yesterday the @ClimateAPPG hosted Minister @KerryMP to discuss #COP29 and international climate.
The session focused on:
💵ambitious climate finance
🛢️fossil fuel phaseout
🤝global cooperation on climate and energy
This was the first event of our Climate and Nature Leadership Programme w/ @EnvironmentAPPG, which aims to support parliamentarians in becoming champions on climate and nature issues. 🚀

A real pleasure to host @JimSkeaIPCC, @FrediOtto and @emilyshuckburgh in parliament yesterday to talk with MPs about the scientific imperative for urgent action to address the climate crisis and transition away from fossil fuels. 👇
Our Vice Chair @carla_denyer supports calls for a new approach to the #EnergyTransition, to provide a ring-fenced funding package for North Sea oil and gas workers.
"We need to stop betting on the industry to do the right thing" 👏
Over 250 signatories call on @Keir_Starmer to #StopRosebank.
Doctors, farmers, vicars, academics, nature groups, climate groups, local councillors, educators and 200+ organisations united in calling for an end to new oil and gas.

Important new research by our members Uplift shows that just seven out of a total of 87 North Sea oil and gas companies (8%) plan to invest anything in renewable energy projects between now and 2030, casting significant doubt on the industry’s claims to be driving the UK’s energy transition
NEW: North Sea oil and gas companies are failing to invest in renewables, despite claims that they need to be allowed to keep extracting fossil fuels to provide funding for their switch to clean energy. 👇👇👇
Brand new research from Uplift confirms the minimal role oil & gas companies are playing in driving forward the UK's energy transition.
Just 8% of of North Sea producers will have invested anything in UK renewable energy projects by 2030.
