Eterna is a videogame where you can invent medicine. You solve RNA design puzzles, and your solutions get synthesized and tested by biochemistry & robotics!
First two targets in #CASP17 are #RNA, and they're designs from the online videogame @eternagame. Hope the bots preparing for CASP have been playing Eterna!
This week, learn about the crowdsource RNA design platform, Eterna, and Anthony Stohr's switch work. In the future, how could Eterna be used to tackle to 3D RNA structure problem?

A new 3-state Replicase challenge has been launched on Eterna and will only be open for two weeks before sequences are collected for experimental testing at @RDasLab. Will Eterna players be able to improve the catalytic activity of the RNA polymerase?

We got single RNAs to compute functions like all logic gates, A>B, and A*B/C^2, relevant for tuberculosis detection! Now looking for partners to scale to complex applications. Awesome collaboration with
@WJGreenleaf@purveshkhatri@eternagame at https://t.co/EsbWv7WGBk
In addition to the RibonanzaNet server hosted by @RDasLab, RNA structure fans can try the new pseudoknotted prediction model in Eterna's RNet Study collection. The 108 puzzles are a mix of experimentally-validated structures and synthetic fabrications.

We're excited to move forward with this next step in Eterna's governance. Same core staff and a renewed focus on sustaining and growing Eterna.
Hear directly from Eterna lead developer and Frameshifter director @luxaritas at Eternacon this weekend: https://t.co/9kwPTuqUA3
Eterna's team is excited to announce the launch of Frameshifter, a new nonprofit program established to steward Eterna's future and advance public engagement in scientific research through games, collective and hybrid intelligence, and human centered design.
Frameshifter is a fiscally sponsored project of the 501c3 @sprblm_. Learn more about Frameshifter at https://t.co/M6mDe18DvS
Our team has discussed this step for some time, and initially shared our plan to start a new organization with our community a few months ago.
So excited to see our work finally published in RNA @SanfordRNAlab, @RDasLab, @eternagame, Michael D. Stone! Super cool work with exciting implications behind RNA drug design!!!
Registration for Eterna's annual online conference July 26-27 is open! Come hear from both researchers and players about new approaches to structure-based RNA design and understanding RNA structure. #citsci

🧬 TODAY: Solve puzzles. Help invent new medicines.
Eterna, created by Stanford Medicine, turns cutting-edge biomedical research into puzzles you can solve.
Design RNA molecules that could one day treat diseases, predict how RNA folds, and advance drug discovery.
Your designs are tested in real university labs, and your contributions help scientists build better RNA models.
It’s free, global, and open to anyone: https://t.co/3rPuv2AKSF

Eterna players support the RNA research being performed by academic labs at US universities and strongly believe federal funding of these research programs should be fully restored to maintain America's leadership in both science and biomedical entrepreneurship.
National DNA Day celebrates the completion of the human genome project in 2003 and the discovery of the double helix in 1953. The continuing work of dedicated scientists to unlock the function of genes and RNA in the human body is leading to important advances in medicine.
Videos of the presentations are available on the Eterna website at https://t.co/Ij211hSHds.
Eternacon 2025 will be July 26-27.
🧬Come get involved with #citizenscience!🧬
Eternacon 2024 featured great talks on how Eterna players helped RNA structure researchers improve the preparation of RNA sequences for chemical mapping, particularly the formatting of padding and barcodes to reduce misfolds and smooth read counts.
