Shorebird biologist interested in phenology, climate, interspecies interactions, life-history tactics, all things shorebirds. PostDoc at MPIO. From South Korea.
Thanks to all the participants who filled up the room at #IWSG2023 tagging workshop, we gained collective knowledge on how to safely tag our shorebirds, the cutting-edge technology, and what the community needs are! What a wonderful conference it was! ๐
Super interesting final #IWSG2023 workshop organised by Max Planck @luke_eberhart@eunbkwon & others on tags and attachment methods. So much combined #wader knowledge!
"Lack of breeding site fidelity and mate fidelity in an enigmatic socially monogamous shorebird"
A study by Eunbi Kwon and Bart Kempenaers
They equipped 48 individuals with satellite transmitters to study their movements.

I am so grateful and excited to join the KT Boost Fellows, and also thrilled to add 'Field Ornithology' among many amazing fields of science represented here. My research on shorebird migration is about to get seriously boosted! :)

I'm grateful to @AvHStiftung for sending me this sweet box full of Christmas spirit and for organizing a cultural evening with the #HumboldtConcert! Listening from Starnberg, Germany.
What's up with sex, dispersal, and migration? Well, it turns out that plovers are a great model system to understand these curious evolutionary crossroads. Check out my upcoming #IWSGconf talk: Oct 11 0930 CEST / 2030 NZDT #shorebirds@shorebirdswest@WaderStudy@EU_MPQ@chorlnev
Great thanks to @WaderStudy for organizing #IWSGconf! Getting super excited to hear/speak/discuss about #shorebirds#waders, and here's a preview of a long-billed dowitcher working hard to send us data... ๐
Social associations during winter predict future mating patterns in blue tits. Have a look at our latest paper together with @DamienFarine and Bart Kempenaers, @RSocPublishing: https://t.co/hQW0UdkdF5
So happy and feeling privileged to share this wonderful photo of a Semipalmated Sandpiper by Dr. Bruce Lyon on the cover and to have put my name alongside many shorebird biologists that I admire @bksandercock @NRSenner @BirdingByBike@EricaNol

1. I share a custody of a pet dove
2. I become a birder when I'm in Alaska
3. After multiple instructors and classes, I still can't swim...

Twenty-one pairs of Long-billed Dowitchers from Utquiagvik, Alaska are headed south carrying satelite tags. Our study will look into how the species maintained monogamy coupled with extreme-low site fidelity, a rare strategy combo in shorebirds.
@icparsons @bksandercock @DrBirdLady @NRSenner @EricaNol@JennieRausch@AChangingArctic@SBrownArctic Hi, thank you for showing interest in our study! Graphs sure can look quite different year to year, and that's why we need to keep monitoring this system! :)
@morphospaceman @bksandercock @J_Reneerkens @NRSenner @EricaNol@JennieRausch@AChangingArctic@SBrownArctic I agree and I'm afraid the 'equation' to solve the abundance and phenology of Arctic invertebrates under climate change may be more complex than we'd hope for!
After a long incubation, our study on the phenological mismatch between Arctic shorebirds and their invertebrate prey across ten breeding grounds is fledged for your view: https://t.co/vedeiAUEwL Amazing collaboration was made through the #ArcticShorebirdDemographicsNetwork
We are hiring a seasonal biologist for our team in NC, monitoring piping plover migration on the Outer Banks. Our work there has been instrumental in establishing the out sized importance of the site for plovers, and we need your help to keep it going! https://t.co/pVFBOHtMSX
