How can you detect a BS vendor (consultant): they use generic words like:
"(...) mission to solve/fix a problem"
vs
"We fix your bathrom drainage problem using plumber's snake, auger, and/or a high-pressure water jet to clear the blockage."
This might be the end of @cartainc as the trusted platform for startups.
As a founder it feels kind shitty that Carta, who I trust to manage our cap table, is now doing cold outreach to our angel investors about selling Linear shares to their buyers.
This is gold. I have seen a trend where founders start angel investing while still being “full time” in their business and I always wondered what would happen if their own startup could use their 100% attention.
Unless you are already rich,
Your own startup should be the best investment you’ll ever make — if it’s worth anything at all.
Let other stuff go. Just put your cash into VTI/VOO. Take that one extra meeting. Push on to find that better CTO. Go visit that customer IRL. Stay.
King of Spain at the final day of Wimbledon. This looks great.
Very rare to see this level of tailoring nowadays, even on the wealthy. So let's talk about some of the reasons why it's great. 🧵
@paulg Thank you Paul for taking the time and writing this essay. I am really curious to know 1) where the idea of writing this essay came from and 2) how long has it been brewing before you decided to finally write it down in December?
Again and again, @profgalloway makes me want to be a better writer. Another wonderful piece today, with an especially moving message.

"If you weren't there, there'd probably just be someone else to fill the slot, and it'd rarely make a big difference either way. That's part of the resilience of a big ship. That just isn't so in a small boat. If you're not rowing, everyone will notice." https://t.co/ISrHKAwCJT
What do they got?
A big team, lots of money, a strong brand, seemingly unlimited resources, panache, reputation, all that. They’re established.
They’re your competitors.
You want to look away, but you see them everywhere. Their ads on your social, their name in the media, your dream clients on their website.
But you know what else they got?
Bigger company bloat. Overflowing obligations. Narratives to uphold. Appearances to maintain. Entitlement. Too much overhead.
They’re slow. They’re conservative. They talk too much. They’ve stopped taking risks. They’re resting on their laurels, gliding on their reputation. They’re on defense.
What they’ve really got is a lot to lose.
What do you got?
Hunger. Drive. Grit. Scrappiness. Independence. You’re on offense.
You don’t have enough, which is why you’re dangerous. You have no choice but to be clever and creative. To make up for what you don’t have with something they can’t have: The underdog spirit.
You can move. You can adjust. You can adapt. You can get it done while they’re still stuck deciding what to do.
Small is not a stepping stone. Small is not less than. It’s greater than. It’s faster than. It’s better than.
Savor your position. You don’t get to be the underdog forever. The baton will be passed. But for now, it’s your magic wand. Use it.
We stand with the underdogs.
You have to be a founder not in the Silicon Valley to really understand and appreciate what it means to run a tech company while every odd is against you. The SVB debacle is not something any founder had anything to do with and I hope it is resolved by Monday.
This is a tough one. It’s easy to blame a person or a few VCs but can you really blame them for advising their portfolio companies to do the rational thing? Zero downside if SVB survives but huge upside if it doesn’t.
@lcmichaelides Lindsey, your story hits a cord with me. All the sacrifices at the expense of something you had no say or role in. But remember this, it is just another bump in your startup journey and you and your team will come out of it stronger than before.
dan, like most AI people, either failed to understand the work, or is lying to make this look impressive
stable diffusion did not read people's minds. he's very conveniently either omitted or left out how this actually works, because it would show that SD didn't do shit

"now, let me tell you what i do know; every day, i come by your work station and we go eat sweetgreens together. you tell me about your startup idea and how fed up you are working at this dying decacorn, and it's great. you know what the best part of my day is?...
