@XFilesAesthetic@Super_Sodiq I always imagine if fights aren't allowed, skates and sticks would be used more in frustration. A fight is honorable, two-hand swinging a stick at someone's neck is dishonorable. Fights will never leave the game of hockey.
#ExM has transformed how we perceive the microbial diversity all around us. Some gorgeous critters from the @EMBLHeidelberg pond - DNA red, centrin yellow, tubulin gray, images courtesy @F_Mikus.
Bonus points if you can identify at least 4!

the existence of "experts" is a myth
the fact that certain skills are "deep" is a meme. you can learn anything in one or two weeks. the only thing that exists is depth
Is there a "go shopping with @dieworkwear lottery"? I don't gamble, but I'd put in $100. I bet we could generate $100k pretty easily. $50k to charity. $25k to derek guy and $25k to travel and a new wardrobe.
Our latest paper @NatureMicrobiol: converting waste into delicious food using fungi. We studied a traditional Indonesian food and discovered a mold domesticated for waste-to-food conversion. Amazing international collab involving scientists, chefs. https://t.co/a3FMZLJZff
@jim_bouldin @MicrobiomDigest I disagree. It's the motivation to cheat that leads to image manipulation. The point I'm trying to make is that even with image verification processes, I'm confident I could cheat without anyone knowing. I don't because of my values. There will always be ways to cheat.
I honestly don't see this as a concern. Any unethical scientist has been able to make convincing data for decades or centuries. Sure, it's easier now. Finding ways to police fraud isn't and has never been the solution. We need to prevent and disincentivize scientific fraud.
AI can be used to make convincing looking fake data.
There is no way we can distinguish real from fake anymore.
It is safe to assume that genAI has already resulted in many fake papers. Scientific publishing is not prepared for this.
