Our only visit to the #IceGiants was in the 1980s with Voyager 2 🛰flybys. Since then, what little we’ve learnt has been from limited telescope observations.
Many in the #space community agree a trip to #Uranus ⚪️ & #Neptune 🔵 is long overdue. Let’s do it. It’s time to go back!
Uranus has never looked better. Really.
Only Voyager 2 and Keck (with adaptive optics) have imaged the planet's faintest rings before, and never as clearly as Webb’s first glimpse at this ice giant, which also highlights bright atmospheric features. https://t.co/aE3rJIqVKy
I've been trying to tweet a TED interview I did with with Nadia Drake (@nadiamdrake), but it keeps disappearing (at least from my feed). It is currently on the front page of the TED website if you are interested - all about #JWST https://t.co/1kGThYhSE6
Short fuse: The Herschel Museum is trying to raise funds to acquire a manuscript written by Caroline Herschel, sister of William Herschel (who discovered Uranus). It is being sold at Christies. Details in the attached flyer. Worthy - supports the history of women in science!
This is what you’ve waited for.
Journey with us through Webb’s breathtaking view of the Pillars of Creation, where scores of newly formed stars glisten like dewdrops among floating, translucent columns of gas and dust: https://t.co/5ea1kCzU5x
Here’s your guided tour ⬇️
I'll be presenting my work during the iPoster session: Giant Gas Atmospheres- 415.05 Modeling Cloud Microphysics in Ice Giant Atmospheres today at 4:00 pm EDT-5:00 pm EDT. #DPS2022
So stop by!
Naomi Rowe-Gurney /@NRoweGurney (@NASAGoddard, @HowardU) gave us a nice history of methyl (CH3) detections in the middle atmospheres of Neptune and Uranus. She discussed spectroscopic models and the need for #JWST obs of Uranus (coming next year!).

At #DPS2022, Matt Hedman shows re-analysis by a citizen scientist of 30-yr-old Voyager Uranus images of the dusty “zeta” ring. Confirms our @keckobservatory discovery of “extreme” change in dust loading during the 2007 equinox. #JWST images may revolutionize U ring work!
