Very excited to share that in September I'll be starting a @ONEPlanetDTP PhD with @NCLNEG, @DarrenMarkEvans & co! I'll be looking at mitigating the impacts of ALAN 💡 on biodiversity 🦋! Can't wait to continue ALAN research and explore the ento-scene in Northumberland:) 🐛🐝
We find that even short pulses of light impact moth flight behaviour! Particularly when the lights are blue/white like those blinding modern car headlights 🚗💡
Very exciting to see my first ever paper published! Check it out https://t.co/UqXZSafvFP!
New paper out showing how pulses of blue-white lights (such as those in modern car headlights) cause more harmful responses in moths compared to warmer coloured light pulses. https://t.co/vWBaHrDbHF
Exciting news! The Wildlife Trusts have today completed the purchase of part of Rothbury Estate in Northumberland in partnership with Northumberland Wildlife Trust including the Simonside Hills. It's home to rare wildlife including curlew and red squirrel. (1/2) 📷 Duncan Hutt
Autumn is the season when things get a little bit weird in the wildlife world 🍂🧟
From zombie caterpillars to skeleton leaves, check out our spooky spotter sheet for some ideas of what to look out for this #HalfTerm 👇

Manx Shearwater chick EM82816 was last seen on 26th August, its wing about 10mm short of fledging length. It was found exhausted on a Brazilian beach on 8th October, 43 days later. So 216km a day and in reality a lot more than that
Great evening of NHSN @NENature_ talks! We learnt about the Gosforth’s Wild Web and the wonderful field skills programme the society runs! Already looking forward to next week! Special shout out to @BenSJHawthorne who absolutely smashed talking about the inverts in the web!!
From eggs to adults, yesterday was a fab day to look for ladybirds!
Cream-streaked, 18-spot, harlequin, orange, cream-spot and 10-spot made for a great morning! Thanks to @CommonByNature and @NENature_!
Great mothing session last night, with many Canary Shouldered Thorns, Green and Red-green carpets, Light emerald, Snouts, Red-line Quaker, Pink-barred Sallow, and the star of the show, Merveille du Jour! Thanks to Andy and Paul from @NENature_ #MothsMatter
Brilliant to work with @NatDuffus on this important paper. The culmination of several years' work examining how the BNG Metric lines up with primary invertebrate field data @oxmartinschool@NatureRecovery. 1/2
Great day in Tynemouth exploring the rockpools and local birds. Redshanks, Oystercatchers, Ringed plovers, anemones and (Whooper?) swans made for a great day out!
@bardseyben@RSPBScience@TheSeabirdGroup @sjurdur @RobThomas14 Very cool- thanks for explaining! I'll keep an eye out for your results and future set-up, bet it will show some interesting results!
If you have late-blooming flowers in your garden, don't forget to check for any #moths feeding at night, to help investigate nocturnal #pollination ! We're still seeing moths on ragwort, devil's bit scabious and exotic plants on our beautiful campus @UniExeCornwall@UniExeCEC
