Born in Nazareth, Palestine, in 1894, Amin Kawar was a pioneering figure whose work shaped healthcare, industry, and business in the region.
In 1926, he founded the Amirate Pharmacy in Amman - the first pharmacy in Transjordan - and was appointed Pharmacist by Special Appointment to Emir Abdullah I, marking a milestone in the country’s modern healthcare development.
In 1935, he discovered phosphate deposits near Russeifa and established the Trans-Jordan Phosphate Mines Ltd., creating one of the Kingdom’s first major industrial ventures and laying the foundation for Jordan’s mining sector.
In the 1950s, his son Tawfiq Amin Kawar expanded the family enterprise into shipping and logistics through Amin Kawar & Sons, which eventually grew into the Kawar Group, a diversified conglomerate with regional and international reach.
Today, the Kawar Group operates across shipping, logistics, renewable energy, technology, travel, healthcare, and investment sectors, maintaining a leading role in Jordan’s economy.
Its shipping arm continues to provide freight forwarding and maritime services, while Kawar Energy develops large-scale solar projects across Jordan and the region.
The Group also invests in ICT solutions, healthcare administration, tourism, and real estate, reflecting a century-long legacy of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Through these accomplishments, Amin Kawar not only advanced industry and healthcare in his lifetime but also laid the groundwork for a multigenerational business empire that continues to shape economic development in Jordan and the Middle East.
