Together we are stronger 💪
That was the message tonight as community leaders across #Newcastle convened at our Civic Centre.
It was a chance for an open dialogue to ensure everyone feels safe in our City of Sanctuary.
Thank you for your time and support 🖤
Why isn't @NewcastleCC ensuring that the women's organisations are involved and informed of the plans and precautions to protect the public during the "protests"¿
Why are @northumbriapol liaising with predominantly religious leaders (men) and community leaders (men) about planned far right "protests" and excluding established women led organisations that represent global majority women?
We combed through FIFA's own regulations, so you dont have to. Every bid has "fully binding obligations" to:
⚽️Have a human rights strategy to prevent abuses
⚽️Protect workers rights
⚽️Uphold UN standards on policing, equality and free speech.
FIFA can deny any bid that fails
Tonight we welcome the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan ☪️
I want to thank London’s Muslims, not only for your enormous contribution to our city, but for showcasing London’s caring and compassionate values.
From my family to yours: #RamadanMubarak
I've just added my voice to a new global survey on women’s mental health, empowerment and equality! Have your say on the mental health of women and girl’s worldwide here - https://t.co/7eYW8A1dlj
The survey takes no more than 10 mins to complete #mentalhealth@elisha_london
In 2010, when @FIFACom awarded Qatar the 2022 World Cup, it was well known that exploitation of migrant workers was rife in the country. Yet FIFA turned a blind eye. In a 38 page evaluation of Qatar's bid, the word 'worker' didn't appear once. It was as if they were invisible.
Teams in the #Qatar2022 World Cup will share *$440m* in prize money.
So today human rights orgs, unions & fans groups called on @FIFACom to provide at least the same to the workers who suffered to make the tournament possible. Here's why: 🧵

@StephEdusei just gave a fantastic speech at #Teakisi talking about the power of referring to “ethnic minorities” / “BAME” as the Global majority as actually white people are the Global minority. They just happen to be prioritised :) #BlackHistoryMonth
Hugely impressed by the outpouring of support for Afghan refugees arriving in Greenwich. The Forum at Christchurch Church is filling up with donations, with volunteers doing great work. Details in 2nd pic if you can help.
Our new @amnesty report shows that thousands of migrant worker deaths have gone effectively unexplained in #Qatar over the last decade, despite evidence that hundreds of young men may have died as a result of working in extreme heat.
