நகரமயமாக்கலில் இந்தியாவிலேயே தமிழ்நாடு முதலிடம் வகிக்கிறது.

நிலம் கையகப்படுத்தும்போது அரசுகள் முறையான இழப்பீடு வழங்குவதை உறுதிசெய்வதும், சட்டம் வலியுறுத்தும் எல்லா விதிகளையும் முறையாக பின்பற்றுகிறார்களா என்பதை கண்காணிப்பதும்தான் தமிழ்நாடு அரசியல்கட்சிகள் இப்போது செய்தாக வேண்டியது. சமரசமில்லாமல் இதை செய்வதே முதன்மையானதாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.

பெங்களூரு, ஹைதராபாத் நகரங்களை விட நம் சென்னை ஏற்கனவே பத்தாண்டுகள் பின்னால் இருக்கிறது. சென்னையின் இந்த இரண்டாவது விமான நிலையமே 15 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பாக வந்திருக்க வேண்டியது.

தேசிய அளவில்' தமிழ்நாட்டின் வளர்ச்சியை பின்னுக்குத் தள்ளும் எல்லா முயற்சிகளும் மும்முரமாக நடைபெற்றுக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது, நீங்களும் அவர்களோடு கை கோர்க்காதீர்கள் நண்பர்களே.

2) One of the leading businessmen in Coimbatore running an iconic restaurant synonymous with Kovai explains his woes in a typically Kovai style.

3) A day later, he’s seen apologising for raising his concerns and BJP folks release the video of the same (this is the telling part).

Doing a rare inter-city bus journey today from Coimbatore today and it's a small nostalgia trip as I am travelling in - Conti Travels - after some 2 decades.

This is a travel brand that is only familiar to those who have lived in Bangalore or Coimbatore or a few Kerala cities, and perhaps Chennai.

If ever there is a requirement to travel between Bangalore and Coimbatore by bus, our extended family - friends circle has almost always preferred this travel agency since the 1980s!

Read on to know why...

- The company once was part of the stable of companies owned by the legendary GD Naidu (now it's under a new ownership apparently) and from the start it had a commitment for safety. Ask anyone why they travel by Conti - they will say the drivers drive defensively and sedately. There is no pressure to 'make up time' if there are delays. Drivers never penalised and the company apparently still invests a lot of time and money training drivers at a test track before letting them drive! It was and still is something unbelievable if a bus belonging to Conti has an accident.

- Caring and friendly bus staff in white uniform - this was and is still unique. No random un-uniformed staff. Two well rested drivers who take defined shifts to drive. I even remember some model buses which had a partition back then, had a small berth for the spare driver to sleep. In the 90s I remember a couple of instances when the bus broke down due to mechanical issues and the crew compensated with meals and snacks for all passengers with no fuss. Till the late 1990s they used to even accommodate unaccompanied minors in buses! The crew would take personal responsibility of children, chaperone them during halts and personally handover to parents or guardians at their destination. Me and my sister have travelled like this!

- Back in the day they had a unique system of boarding passes for passengers. You couldn't book a seat while purchasing a ticket. Seats were allocated before boarding the bus. Thus, single women and families could be seated together in the front. They had a zero tolerance policy on anyone turning up drunk, tickets used to be cancelled and refunded. In Coimbatore they even had a departure lounge at the UMS building on Avinashi Road. There were toilets and fresh drinking water for passengers.

- Buses were always clean and tidy. The bus today is also very clean. Their bus livery has always been pure white with the brand in blue.

- They still are unique in having daytime departures. It is preferred by families travelling with kids. I remember the 7 am bus from Bangalore to Coimbatore and the lunchtime departure from Coimbatore to Bangalore was the most popular. Today I'm on the same lunchtime departure to Bangalore.

- They used to also have an official waitlisted ticket back in the day. You could buy a refundable waitlisted ticket and get a seat if some passenger doesn't show at departure.

It's nice to see that values of a brand have endured even after a change of ownership and continue to set a standard of service in break neck competitive world.
