🟦🟨 FIRST AND ONE HEALTH.
The Fajembola Inertia of Science and Technology (FIRST) positively impacts One Health in several targeted, emerging ways, particularly through education, accessibility, and capacity-building rather than large scale policy or clinical interventions. We directly support One Health by making research on interconnected topics like climate change's effects on vector-borne diseases, waterborne illnesses, mental health from extreme weather, malnutrition, and AMR, understandable to non-experts, policymakers, communities, and students. By bridging the science community gap, we propel "each one to help one" in prevention, awareness, and local action, aligning with One Health's emphasis on cross-sector collaboration and public engagement.
Futhermore, FIRST produces content (YouTube discussions, social media, LinkedIn/Instagram/ Facebook series like "Dr. Fajembola's Opinion") on topics such as malnutrition in Nigeria, preventive healthcare, and the links between science/tech innovation and well-being. For World Health Day 2026, we highlighted priorities like investing in research/innovation, promoting wellness through education and technology, and bridging science with community needs core to One Health's goal of "Health for All." These efforts raise awareness of how environmental factors affect human and animal health, encouraging integrated solutions.
Moreover, FIRST positions itself in disaster management, humanitarianism, and gender-responsive action, all of which overlap with One Health's focus on resilience against environmental threats. We foster the "whole-of-society" approach that One Health requires.
In addition, with a strong emphasis on Nigeria/Africa and training diverse rapporteurs, FIRST amplifies underrepresented voices in global health agendas. We promote preventive, tech-enabled solutions and legacy building through accessible research, helping address inequities in One Health implementation across resource limited regions facing the greatest burdens from environmental degradation.
Lastly, as a relatively young civic initiative, FIRST's impact is primarily catalytic, building awareness, skills, and networks rather than direct measurable outcomes like policy changes or clinical trials at this stage. Views on our content are modest but growing through consistent outreach, and our model of "simplifying science for legacy" has strong potential to scale influence on One Health literacy and innovation, especially as we expand collaborations.
In sum, FIRST impacts One Health positively and constructively by making the science behind human-animal-environment interconnections actionable for everyday people, driving education/innovation, and advocating integrated planetary solutions. We embody a "science for the people" ethos that strengthens the foundational public understanding needed for One Health to succeed globally.

🟦🟨 WEEK 15 READ-TUMBLEWEEDS .
This is the first book discussion on Dr. Fajembola's Opinion. The book is an unapologetic look at how modern healthcare, education, and child welfare systems often ignore or penalize women’s voices. Drawing from her personal experiences raising three sons and her professional background as an attorney, Yost examines "medical gaslighting," special education struggles, and foster care.
Salient points from week 15;
1. Institutions often prioritize protecting themselves over supporting the families they serve.
2. Instead of a traditional parenting manual, the book serves as a "case study in informed resistance," offering strategies for parents to become effective advocates.
3. It includes vulnerable and sometimes humorous accounts of navigating these broken systems.
In conclusion, it is a refreshing perspective to read from a patient.
If you have a book on health you want to increase visibility and awareness on, feel free to reach out to us on [email protected].
Tumbleweeds is available for purchase on Amazon.

🟦🟨 WEEK 18 READ- https://t.co/X1fyxMMHG1
1. Stroke remains a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, with approximately 795,000 new or recurrent cases annually in the United States alone.
2. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a promising neuromodulatory approach to enhance motor recovery after stroke.
3. Patient-specific factors, such as stroke severity, lesion location, and
baseline motor impairment, may influence VNS efficacy.
4. Despite advances in rehabilitation strategies, such as physical and occupational therapy, only 20–30% of patients achieve full arm motor recovery, showing the
need for innovative interventions to enhance neuroplasticity and functional outcomes.
5. VNS involves the delivery of electrical impulses to the vagus nerve, which projects to key brain regions involved in neuroplasticity, including the cortex and brainstem.
In conclusion, stroke rehabilitation aims to restore function and inde-
pendence through strategies that leverage neuroplasticity, including physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT),
robotic-assisted therapy, and non-invasive brain stimulation.

Nicholas Aderinto, M.D. is a physician-scientist and editor whose work in stroke recovery,
neurorehabilitation, and translational neuroscience has earned international recognition. He is currently pursuing a Doctoral Program at the University of Utah, where his research focuses on
novel neuromodulation strategies to improve functional outcomes in stroke survivors. His work
and leadership have made him one of the most visible and influential early-career neuroscientists
from Africa contributing to global neurological health.
Dr. Aderinto has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals, including The
Lancet, Nature, Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports, Current Treatment Options in Neurology, European Journal of Medical Research, and Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery. His research has been cited more than 2,000 times, with an H-index of 24. According to
Elsevier’s SciVal analytics, he ranks among the Top 500 Researchers in all subject areas in Africa (2020–2026).
In 2024 and 2025, he was nominated for Wiley’s Research Hero of the Year Award, recognizing
scientists whose work demonstrably impacts public health and global research visibility. Wiley
also produced a documentary highlighting his contributions to neurorehabilitation in
low-resource settings.
Dr. Aderinto serves as Topic Editor for Frontiers in Neurology, co-leading the international
special issue “Redefining Stroke Recovery: Current Trends and Recent Advances” with
collaborators from Harvard, Johns Hopkins, the University of Geneva, and the University of
Texas at Austin. He is also an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE.
He contributes to global collaborative research as a Global Burden of Disease (GBD)
Collaborator with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), a Research Fellow
